REDDIT: Reddit's /r/diy got me to learn a lot about electronics. The extremely detailed guides which led to something that could ACTUALLY BE USEFUL was a very good motivator. /r/StopDrinking was also a lot of help f

Why isn't it being added to POSIX? What does it take to get something added to POSIX?

The better way would be for a service that installed an extension that tracks number of visits to distinct URLs on a site you tell the extension to track. At the end of the month, it uses a multiplier with the number of visits to either: 1.

Instead of crying about it, WE can add suggested APIs to be included in the WebExtensions extension Firefox is using. They recently added the Sidebar API which allows a form for vertical tabs but nobody has implemented trees yet.

Yes. Because the Thunderbird and Firefox codebases are diverging so much that instead of just maintaining Thudnebird people will have to maintain a fork of Gecko too.

AJAX, bi-directional text, most conformant CSS 2.0 browser, border-box sizing CSS model are all things where IE was ahead of the times. The reason people hated IE was because it implemented only "just enough" to get ahead and then

Firefox is a lot older so obviously the issues are also a lot older. You can find the oldest unfixed bugs for Chromium here ( https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/list?can=2&q=&so... ). A lot of

How is that a bug when they say that's what the spec says. Also, both Edge and WebKit are going to adopt that behaviour since it makes sense. I think there's one more reason people see less of Firefox. I know a LOT of people who h

I've seen things go the other way around. As an example, use Chrome Canary to browse https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/its-like-tweeting... and then use Firefox Nightly. Chrome can barely manage to k

Thunderbird already uses a lot of JS. The only difference I think is that Thunderbird works on the XUL instead of the HTML DOM.

Reminds me of https://stackoverflow.com/questions/23289157/how-to-use-hard... . The entire Linux graphics stack is fragmented and makes things worse for both users and developers.

You can easily force enable it. But the stability varies wildly with hardware. My iGPU works good, my NVIDIA 920m works good but the old AMD 5750HD causes crashes. Go to about:config and set: layers.acceleration.force-enabled to true. BUG R

I think it could be some issue with hardware acceleration then? The link is a bit old so I don't know if things are still the same, but I used this long ago. http://www.webupd8.org/2014/01/enable-hardware-acce

It's a chicken and egg problem too. As the comment above referring to Apple having issues with SMBv2 and v3, they can't do anything but use SMBv1. It's sad really.

Hey, have you used Powertop's --auto-tune flag? Is there any way you know of to selectively enable flags. I don't like that my disks spin up and park too frequently because I have some spinning disks too.

No sysadmin should be using SMBv1 in the first place though. I agree completely with your first paragraph though and it seems like a likely situation.

I don't know. I'm confused as is. I really hate when people break: 1. Conventional units. 2. Don't follow the XDG basedir spec for config files. 3. Make inconsistent command line flags. 4. Don't allow control of color ou

I once set up a schedule where I would open the gitconfig manpage and read at least one section of the settings. My gitconfig file growed to over 200 lines then. Quite a lot of stuff isn't very helpful in there though.
