" In 2011, almost a full quarter of young Americans said democracy was a "bad" or "very bad" way to run a country. And today, one in six Americans say it'd be "good" or "very good" to be und

We're a fat nation because people eat at restaurants too much where the portions are too large. Also, they have no self control.

I'm also simply tired of the excuses fat people make "Muh HFCS did this." Yeah, that and drinking 4 2 liters a day.

Obese people are obese because they eat--A LOT. I had a relative like that. The amount of food put away was epic.

I'm not comfortable with the word "designed." There is evolutionary adaptation, there is no design. Would you have lost the same 25lbs. if you had just eaten less? In other words, does it really matter that you cut out carb

I think a simple alcohol and drug screen of candidates would do wonders. You would be amazed how many politicians are full blown, abusive alcoholics.

Wow. I have never heard anything about this before and yet it explains a great deal about my own life.

Are people actually making money this way? I don't mean in 1 or 2 trades, I mean, making money consistently every day and not losing any money ever?

Poor Clojure. Rich, I just want you to know that you are beloved. It's just that most working developers aren't of a high enough skill level to move on from Java :-(

Nestle and Hershey have already turned their products into nothing but shit, so to keep trying to push the envelope sounds exactly like how cable thought they could jam more commercials into the programming and nobody would notice. These s

But that is unfair to those of us who do understand debt. This is the problem with socialism right here--you can't cripple the people who are responsible, who do the right things. You kill the country that way.

Exactly this! I attended a major southern public university and the administrative overhead there was immense. Not only that, you had high placed administrators who "retired" only to immediately return as high dollar consultants

My brother is a "plumber" but he never took the exam or whatever and got his license. It's the same thing over and over--people with ambition succeed, people who lack it do not. If he had studied and gotten that license he

The whole mess that is higher education sickens me. The bankers did this. They colluded with susceptible financial aid officers and corrupted and victimized. Now the rest of us are left holding the bag, as usual. Socializing the losses.

The reason jobs went to China is simply because US companies were being made to pay for their pollution. China is cheap in comparison. Lower wages, less trouble with employment laws, no trouble with environmental impact. It was an extrem

Technology also creates jobs. I think what you are missing here is that technology is neutral to human ambitions. Technology doesn't care--it could empower us, destroy us, whatever. Technology does not care about human destiny.

I'd be very careful about that "won the popular vote" meme. First off, it isn't relevant. Second off, if people who were ineligible to vote, aka illegal immigrants and felons (and maybe dead people, too) then what we k

I don't think it's a good idea to categorize Trump supporters as uneducated hicks. Liberals love to do that to gun owners, but it is farthest from the truth--both groups are a massive cross section of society that cuts across eve

What good is a smart coffee maker? I don't need one. All this IoT stuff is over-hyped marketing nonsense. I've been playing with some Arduino and Raspberry Pi based devices to control things in my house, but they're toys.

Well, if you read Quora, everyone makes millions of dollars writing code. In the real world (e.g. not Silicon Valley), yeah, it's hard to crack six figures--took me about 10 years to do that with a BS in CS, MS in Computer Engineering
