One more issue when going somewhere: not all places have useful 4G offerings. In France, Germany and Italy for instance I couldn't find a monthly prepaid 4G offer with unlimited data, especially in France you frequently even need a loc

Makes sense, it's the main value of working together (and going to the office back in the day), but make sure to reward this behavior.

Good point, this is probably my experience at a FANG talking, I was like that early in my career, based on my experience at university where it was mutually beneficial to support others. All things equal I didn't get promoted any faste

Would be nice to see a benchmark on large scale deployment overall and individual cost, reliability, etc. I also think that fast(er) internet without relying on governments could be interesting for many people in presumably developed countr

It can be frustrating, but it's also frustrating if people ask without thinking what this might mean for your own routine. At the end of the day you won't get promoted for not getting your own work done while helping others and pe

Regulation could go a long way, e.g. tax incentives for open source development or using open standard/platforms. Imagine giving developers or companies lower tax rates on profits from open source products, e.g. for resulting donation

Sounds like good old corporate to me, the boss says you won’t get your bonus unless there are x app installs, the product manager replies “hold my beer and watch this”. This is a serious issue for users though and should highlight the risks

Any recommendations on home networking? I couldn't figure out what the established approach would be to having access to the infrastructure over a consumer internet connection and without exposing the rest of the network. All resources

Compare that to Germany. There’s a company (datev) that has a monopoly on SMB accounting and will only work with tax advisors. Complete waste of labor and money, all because taxation rules are so complicated.

Same in Germany, unless you hire full time lawyers and accountants you’ll end up burning a lot of money on these services, mistakes they make and all sorts of authorities.

I like the way Singapore keeps it simple by having tax exemptions and lower rates for the first $ X of income (and overall lower tax than most places in Europe), this is easy to work with and allows you to reinvest in ways you see fit rathe

My reading is that it’s the same model: “Their order for additional 737-8s“ The upgrades are necessary in any case to be certified.

This is quite surprising, the first reason stated is GDP, which I don’t see as a perfect indicator for a good startup environment. The second reason is low taxes, which especially for Berlin also isn’t true, there are different types of cor

Sounds like a problem that should be easy to find on an org chart. If you don’t reward good ideas (they don’t even need to be particularly good or novel, just common sense), you’ll have a company trying to grow something that’s reached its
