"[I] heard that there are people who tell them that they just need to get over it and cheer up." I do this. A great many of my friends and family do this too. I'm not sure why you find it so difficult to believe that there are people who

It's possible. Kindergarten is age 5-6. I started with LOGO in the first grade( age 6 ), if that can be considered a programming language. I was poring over my dad's purple 8086 book by age 8 and writing some basic assembly programs. Kids

Right. Except the Federal Reserve has zero impact on tax or fiscal policy. These are not "tax dollars". The means by which the Fed extracts wealth from US citizens is not by taxation, but by inflation, since they effectively control the m

I'm not sure what your point is regarding something being wrong with their management. Are you suggesting they should migrate away from Silverlight? That they should choose a different data format? That they are probably lying about imple

Interesting perspective on "raising too little". I was previously unaware that all bootstrapped companies fail.

These days I use this thing called a browser. It has bookmarking functionality built in. The entire value proposition of logging into a website in order to bookmark other websites is lost on me. I wish I could grok the value, but I can't.

Actually, yes you do. The original GoF was written with C++ in mind. Plenty of enterprise C++ code embraces heavy use of design patterns.

Many of us who use Java on a daily basis don't really care about the Apache/JCP soap opera. It's a fun little sideshow, but it doesn't matter. Wicket is pretty much the only apache java project that holds any value, anyway. And they didn'

Huh? Why specifically ruby on rails? If you're the non-tech founder, why are you already making decisions regarding the technology stack of your future business?

I guess I don't grok the value added by Tumblr. What exactly do they offer that offers a better value proposition than Wordpress or Posterous?

Same here. This would be a nice little cost saver, except it appears they don't support anycast. As such, it's a nonstarter for us.

Pedantry doesn't suit this discussion well. You are correct that the word copyright was not specified. What was specified was that they hosted content they do not own. By this standard, I fully expect AWS to terminate services to EVERY SI

Right, except Wikileaks did not violate the TOS. Classified material cannot, by law, be copyrighted. Once leaked, it is public domain. Amazon's claim otherwise was completely disingenuous and dishonest.

Sorry, I never answered your actual question. First, learn from your mistakes. It sounds to me like you negotiated your current deal poorly. Next time around, if you are committing or risking more to a given project than your other partne

Been there. Destroyed my credit right out of the gate when I tried to run a web development firm in 1997 on student credit cards. Was threatened with eviction twice, and eventually was forced to move. Was fired and subsequently sued for

What do you consider "safe" in a super-inflationary environment? Safety is generally regarded as being cash or bonds, but those become the absolute worst asset classes to hold during very high inflation.

You must raise outside capital to be considered an entrepreneur, bootstrapping be damned? We employ a couple dozen people and never took a VC round. Looks like I've been living a lie. :( At the very least, she could have suggested an alt

Is this a serious post? The government can exact capricious petty revenge on your business, so it's not the business's fault for exercising cowardice? It would be unbelievably easy to rightfully Godwin your perspective on this issue, but I

I think you should do a little more research into the actual events of the Saverin/Facebook story. Ben Mezrich's book, and Aaron Sorkin's writing are particularly fictionalized when it comes to this aspect of the story. May I suggest "The

Disagree, but anecdotally so. I look back with extreme fondness on a 5-month period of my life in 1998/1999 when I was working 80-hour weeks on a project that was ultimately doomed to market failure. I learned a tremendous amount, and my t

There's no obvious indication that the CEO in question is under large amounts of stress. Generally, many founders who work this much do so in a state of flow, which is very much a non-stressful manner of working.

I did the same. We're launching another site soon, so it may work as an experiment there. $17 is impossible to say no to, even if it never gets used. Although I have to wonder why $17? Seems rather arbitrary.
