And that means that I have to make anything that DARPA asks for from now until the end of time?

Nobody said "never make anything for DARPA". The point is just that you have to think through the consequences of your work. Making a network protocol for DARPA is different from making a casualty maximization algorithm for DARPA.

The "dark" in "dark matter" means invisible, not unknowable. Every theory of cosmology predicts dark matter, because if it didn't, it would have been thrown out. That's how the scientific method works.

Dark matter isn't "missing". It's invisible. It's something that has gravity but can't be observed. This galaxy is weird because it's mass is equal to the sum of its stars. In every other galaxy, its hundr

Smbcs are tiny on the scale of galaxies. You can measure their mass, they have a negligible impact on the rest of the galaxy. Smbcs exist because crap tends to fall towards the middle of galaxies and pile up. Galaxies do not exist because o

Or it could be that they want something that's not bottom-of-the-barrel cheap while also not being as expensive as a macbook. There are people who know they don't need a $1200 computer, but also don't want a $100 one that cra

How could they? Americans are too paranoid to allow an ID card, much less a centrally tracked loyalty-points number to use at party-owned shopping, transit, utility, housing....

Why are you using nationwide numbers to address a NYC-local problem. In New York, only 25% of people drive to work, and in Manhattan it's 5%. Why do they get free rein to block the single lane allotted for 95% of people, in addition to

Why are we all freaking out about the ability to "put a sticker on a stop sign that makes it invisible to YOLO". I could just as easily put a sticker on a stop sign that makes it invisible to people.

The "hacking" is entirely different in that case. It's not like the person gets sudo power over your computer, it's that your car goes through a stop sign without stopping. It's easy to find the problem because you

Tell that to 321 Media Player, who raked in millions by illegally copying VLC. Simply attaching a big bad license to your code doesn't prevent 3rd world shovelware farms from copying your work and making tons of money from it for free.

Yeah, that's like saying that a pound of shredded bills has value. Like, yeah, you can trade it, and yeah, value was spent to create it, but you can't get that back. It's not like buying bitcoin gives you back electricity.

It's not just part of the game, it's a top-billing feature. The whole concept of EVE is like a libertarian paradise: anyone can do anything to anybody else at any time, the only consequences are what individuals in the community t
