Chick Corea cooperated with a great many people. My personal favourite is the album “Crystal Silence” with Gary Burton, recorded in 1972 I believe.

The Köln and Vienna concerts are my all-time favourite Keith Jarrett recordings. Perhaps that is part nostalgia: They were the first I ever heard of him.

Anecdote time: I spent the academic year 1980/81 as a visitor at the University of Toronto. I stayed at Massey College. They would add letters behind everybody's names on doors and the list of residents to indicate their academic

Not even the battery? I have a 2015 macbook pro, and battery health is at 78%. It probably has another year in it, maybe two, if I am lucky.

Not to mention “inflammable”, which means the same as “flammable”. Because the former is so easily misunderstood – and has been – warning labels now use the latter.

For some value of “solved”, yes. I live in 3DS-land myself, but since 3DS is not universal, credit card info is still at risk. I had a fraudulent purchase against my card recently. The bank returned the money, but at the moment, I am fighti

Triple negation in your opening sentence; impressive. I had to read it a number of times. Are you sure it says what you intended to say?

You need the r permission to read a directory, in the sense of getting a list of filenames. But the x permission lets you access files and subdirectories if you already know the filename. Of course, you need r permission in the file to read

I have owned no less than three Kia Soul EVs. The first two would succumb to a flat 12V battery, but the latest (a 2020 model) will connect the HV battery to charge the 12V battery if needed, even when the car is parked and switched off. Yo

It probably won’t take a large current, but I expect you need more than just enough to close a relay. Most likely, you’ll need enough to power some CPUs and data buses as well. That’s still tiny compared to the current required to run a sta

Oh wait, I’m still using Adium. I had no idea it was no more. Admittedly, we only use it at home, over bonjour. My wife and I use it to exchange interesting links and the occasional file. It shows its age, but still works (most of the time)

Same thing with “its” vs “it's”, I suspect. I got so confused once because of this, I started doubting which was which, so I looked it up. With the result that I now do an involuntary eye roll every time I see the wrong one.

Normally, pointing out misspellings is bad form, but I can't not point out that your spelling of “popping” was rather misfortunate. I think I know how it happened, since it happens to me all the time: The brain does a lot of its work i

Sometimes, this happens to me just because the same actor pops up in two films. I can never quite get over Lord Elrond being Mr. Smith from the Matrix, for example. Perhaps because the acting in the two roles seems so similar to me. I don’t

This is essentially Horner's method for calculating the value of a polynomial. [1] In your example, you calculate the value of the polynomial 8x^5+5x^4+3x^3+6x^2+2x^1+9 with x=10. The value is 853629, of course, but it you perform your

This reminds me of a cartoon I saw a long time ago. Wile E. Coyote had finally caught and eaten the road runner. Now his life had no meaning, and he was slowly drinking himself to death. Don’t end up like Wile.

I wonder if the Air gets the chips with one faulty GPU core? They could just disable the faulty one and use the remaining seven. </idle-speculation> Edit: Whoops, I see I was not alone thinking that thought.

I think it makes more sense to say that, for rsync, "foo/bar/" names the contents of the directory, while "foo/bar" names the directory itself. You could perhaps think of "foo/bar/" a
