Not entirely. The spelling reform (about 10 years ago) somewhat reduced the use of ß but you still use it frequently after a diphthong (as in "Straße" [street]).

Seems like it has been shut down. The site currently only provides a message that this has been an experiment: While we have concluded this particular experiment, we constantly experiment with new and more secure authentication mechanisms.
