Frankly, I think that's summarised exactly my view on the matter. Environmentalism should the means to an end, not an end in itself.

This is exactly what's needed. Current tablets are clunky to use, using a stylus is annoying and multitouch is clearly the future. Shame that it'll probably be crippled by not having a full OS that allows the use of arbitrary applications.

One of the key successes that Tesco had was managing to create a single brand that appeals across all consumer ranges, selling both cheap and premium goods under one core brand. Since then it's become ingrained on the cultural psyche that y

At least it shows the advantage of CSS - within 30s I managed to do View/Page Style/Basic Style and made the text with ridiculous leading readable. The quicker that this particular trend dies out the better - a font-size of 14px with a line

Overly broad generalisation. The vast majority of sites should not have auto-playing video or sound, however on sites where the user explicitly expects it to happen then I'd deem it as being okay. Examples are YouTube or clicking on a "Watc

Very nice. The logical extension would be to allow easy blocking of certain bugs and/or blocking all bugs on certain sites.

I don't really see this as being a particularly big deal. Editors overstepped the mark on very short single-paragraph articles by reproducing content in full rather than providing a short summary or blurb. The sites administration has now b

A subset of .NET, available as a browser plug-in that no-one actually uses, available on one single other platform proves my point wrong how exactly?

Whereas .NET is still philosophically crippled by Microsoft's intent to create a platform for Windows development and not a true cross-platform development platform. (Yes, I know about Mono, but it's not Microsoft Mono is it?)

I'm going to break down the differences between my opinion and the original articles and hopefully your opinion. I admit CSS has its problems, and the core one is this: it's too complex to create good designs, and it's too easy to hit a bri

CSS does have its limitations, however I'm not convinced providing full DOM manipulation is a good idea. I admit it does solve the problem and provide greater flexibility, but the downside is that it'd be very quickly misused with content a

I'm sick of sensationalist headlines, but this does put across one of the problems emerging technologies have that people often miss: the social issues are often just as, if not more, important than the technical ones.

That's at least partially because you can make Windows and Linux look like Mac OS X, but there's no practical way of making Mac OS X look like Windows or Linux.

I don't want to interrupt the cliche fanboy hatefest, but when IE6 came out way back in 2001, it was by far the most standards compliant browser out there, and much better than the dying outdated Netscape in terms of feature-completeness. T
