The reason people use jQuery is because the default mechanism for accessing elements is longwinded and ugly. It's the exact same reason people use xml.etree.ElementTree over the W3C-style xml.dom.minidom in Python's standard library. Assumi

The problem is that it's harder to write good working code in an unclean language. Look at the Unicode situation for example.

I completely agree. I don't own an iPhone, but this would practically be a killer app for me. A relatively simple concept, but I think the iPhones user interface could be excellent at it, and I think it could be extremely popular within a n

It's a funny coincidence this turns up when I spent about 30 minutes trying and failing to get Git working with Github earlier. I'm not sure if it was the flaky Windows port or not, but it just wasn't happening.

Sure. But comparatively few of those samples represent things that you would actually want to use in the real world, while there is a lot of overly shiny eye-candy, poor user interfaces and non-native widgets - things that Flash has always

I think people probably would. But I am of the opinion that Flash is slowly but surely dying in favour of JavaScript and related technologies. Flash still has its niche for streaming audio and video and a few other things that would be othe

Nope. BitTorrent is just a protocol for transferring files. Much like other similar protocols like http, ftp etc it makes no attempt to limit the type of files relayed through it and is a little out of its scope.

This is a natural extension of an idea that dates back centuries. One old-fashioned way to build a suspension bridge is to use a bow-and-arrow to get an initial rope across. Once that's done, you can attach a stronger rope to the end of it

JavaScript syntax lets you write statements over multiple lines - if the first line cannot be parsed correctly it assumes you meant to continue over to the second line. This leads to odd error messages and JavaScript being harder to debug w

I've long wondered if classifieds may lead the path to profitability since Facebook inherently solves the difficult problem of trust - something that Craigslist and eBay have long struggled with.

I note that on the website there seems to be no real screenshots of your application in action that give me a good idea of what it does and how it works. In my opinion, this is a huge mistake - I generally won't download /anything/ unless I

The actual 'liveblog' content is too low on the page - in fact, on my 1280x800 resolution, it's not even visible until I scroll down. When I visit a site, I want the main content to be the first thing I see and anything else should be secon

I don't see it happening. Webkit is LGPL, and Microsoft have always been anti-GPL. It'd be a major shift in their position to suddenly embrace it out of nowhere. The Internet Explorer's Trident engine is slowly but surely catching up with i

I think TeX doesn't take more than a "reasonable amount of effort" otherwise I, and many others, would use the alternatives. And I'm interested where you got the "reasonable amount of effort thing" from. The TeXbook says nothing of the sort
