I needed to speed up a video by dropping 9 out of every 10 frames yesterday. It took all of 30 seconds to type my request into GPT and paste the result, and I could inspect it before executing. I don't see how this is helpful.

What's going well, what's annoying you? How are you feeling? How's life? What can I do to make your job easier? Are you heading in the direction you want for your career? Showing and taking genuine interest in your team is th

It's happening and we are being gaslit by people saying oh it would never happen. Apple and Google would never allow it to happen. They're both capitalist corporations driven by profit alone. There's immense profit in this. I

A common mistake I see: Every day is two words, everyday is strictly an adjective e.g. an everyday occurrence.

Bret Weinstein suggested this on his podcast - that we select leaders because they would do the best job - and we DON'T let them self-select. They're called to serve similar to jury duty. I don't recall how the selection woul

TL;DR - a dystopia where anyone with an "advantage" is "handicapped" to make everyone "equal". Advantages such as intelligence and beauty must not be used to let anyone get ahead. It was adapted into a short fi

I don't know why you're getting down voted for this. It's a very precise description of what has been happening the last decade. Conform and declare your support or be ruined, even if you have valid criticisms and disagreemen

Yes please. We don't need to get rid of the FDA, just make it optional. If I want to trust the government's opinion of a doctor or drug, I can look for the FDA seal of approval.

I agree. Got into it during COVID - it was really fun learning about radios, RF, building antennas and stuff. But when it actually came to using it....there's not much to do unless you really get a kick out of making contact with rando

The answer, of course, is that everyone sincerely agreed it would be beneficial to have the quacks wear wizard hats (to keep them from getting a big head)

I found a 5W CNC laser on sale for a little over $100. It's really fun and useful to cut things out of 2mm wood. Like the sibling says, having the metal cutting version of this at home would be amazing. I have access to one at a shop i

I think these labels definitely apply, if you think about it as a spectrum. Maybe the author's state wasn't pathological in either case but he definitely went from low energy to high energy. I notice these shifts in myself and oth

I guess the problem with bean counters is they don't know how to count our beans. The low performers look exactly the same as the high performers to them. So they make foolish decisions.

Have you met Americans? We are addicted to comfort. You will certainly get cleaner using a bidet but a jet a cold water spraying your rear end seems like it would be quite uncomfortable. Caveat, like most Americans I have not tried it.

People are saying that pump and dump schemes are unethical even if they're not always illegal. I would assert that investing for short-term gain is always unethical and the only way the stock market really benefits retail investors is

You're partly correct - people are getting more desparate and hopeless because their prospects are grim, and nihilistic because they feel their lives have no meaning. That's a problem and crime will continue to get worse as these

Growth at the expense of quality. At the expense of customer Goodwill. At the expense of employee happiness. I'm a full-blooded capitalist but our economy's addiction to growth will, I think, be our downfall.

Agree, working in an enterprise where you need to integrate with many existing systems, conform to guidance etc is a different beast than startup code written by a single team. If you haven't worked in an enterprise it's difficult

Thank you for this accurate analogy. Similar to what if the post office delivered all your mail for free but they also opened it and read it in order to send you advertising.

The bit about holding an alligator's mouth closed is correct and I remember Step Two from an alligator wrestling demonstration: flip it over. They lose consciousness if you can hold them in an inverted position.

This comment feels like it's coming from communist Russia. You'd better not make the KGB your enemy. Be careful not to do anything they would take an interest in, even if it's not illegal. Is that the USA we're living in

The first 80% of a software project takes 80% of the time. The last 20% of a software project takes 80% of the time. And if you prove this false, you're a better engineer than me!

I think about this a lot as well. The massive value multiplication provided by software allows companies to become insanely bloated. At most companies where I've worked you could do it 20% layoff of the tech staff and not notice it. Lo
