logs should be in text. The last thing you want is to find out that your binary format cannot be decoded due to a bug in the logging or because file got corrupted. Not to mention that you won't be able to integrate with a lot of log sy

An enum, short for enumeration, shouldn't hold data, else don't call it an enum. It's no longer an enumeration, it's a data structure.

This is a very inefficient way to handle events. https://github.com/logcabin/logcabin/blob/master/Event/Loop.... an event can be read/write, and each fd:event_type should be able to map to a di

Splunk is a log management first and foremost. It has an indexer system to index your logs of course. Disclaimer: I work at splunk.

I am biased, but you should look into a logging system like splunk. You shouldn't be using an RDBMS for your logs. Your logs don't have a schema. With splunk, you just output your logs in this format: <timestamp> key1=valu

This post demonstrates the problem in C++ community. Trying to do smart wacky things that involves understanding so many C++ rules and aligning them with the moons to figure out what is going on and then just assume that others can easily m

My gut feeling is that this approach can be prone to silent misbehavior that they cannot detect. There's no reason not to patch HA to reload it's config and reapply it.

unique_ptr transfers ownership. No 2 threads can be working on the same object unless you go out of our way to cheat unique_ptr behavior. Statically or at runtime guarantees don't buy me much. Regarding mutations, const and copy/m

Possible M:N.. by default it's 1:1. It's 1 lthread scheduler per actual pthread. static safety guarantees can come with auto pointers (unique_ptr in particular). This is why I said lthread_cpp & C++11.

Unfortunately most of the C++ vs Rust comparison posts are coming from people who aren't familiar with C++'s idioms and it's obvious that it's not their day to day / goto language.

Why should we trust browser authors with their CA list (google, firefox, etc...)? PKI should be rethought because in its current form we are relying heavily on their trust. Sadly to the average user have no clue what's going on.

This is straight from Expert C Programming book, including the diagrams. It's dishonest to recycle and present it as if it's yours with a reference mention at the very bottom. This is not a reference, it's a copy.
