Clang/llvm also does heap ellision (removing unnecessary mallocs) while gcc didn't last time I checked. I think the llvm devs allows themselves to have a more practical understanding of the cpp standard.

I agree, but I find his methodology a lot more refreshing than other similar opinion pieces, who barely tries to look at data or give context to their claims (history).

Also Lazy data structures can achieve this. And C++ (and rust probably) compilers have no issue doing these optimizations as well.

To be fair about one thing, the pedestrian would not have survived with a human driver either. They crossed the road in pitch black darkness. The only reason it was news was because it was a self driving car.
