The best ones had BS in math (mostly pure math not applied). The second best ones had physics degrees (from BS to PHD). The WORST ones BY FAR had PHD in CS (typically AI/ML focused), absolutely atrocious coders and engineers.

I worked as consultant at several of these big banks, and a few top end private equity firms. And what I learned was I would never want to work there full time. The whole culture of these places is really awful. And it comes from the top.

the base LLM is token predictor - given some stream of tokens, guess the next token, and the next, etc. But ChatGPT is trained on top of the LLM with a whole bunch of example questions+answers, and also most likely they are augmenting you
