Mainly because the ones in power want to stay in power, and actively stop change. We are safer than ever, yet according to the media we are super lucky to not be killed by a terrorist every second of the day.

This isn't a small scale change, everyone has to be on board for it to work.

I would think that in such a society, people would upload blueprints for how to create things, which you could then send to your local manufacturing plant to get built. Some sort of advanced 3d printer could even see these sorts of things w

I wish. The truth is the whole world is run on money, meaning the millionaires and billionaires are the ones in charge. It absolutely doesn't have to be this way; we already produce so much food no one need starve. But greed runs deep

Writing software is hard yes, but I disagree with the author: I do blame the tools. Every language since C has been created as a reaction. What I mean by this is: > C++ was created as a reaction to OOP being so difficult to do in C. &g

I don't think you understand what WordPress is about. It's about easily clicking together a blog site like lego, where every feature is just a search away in the plugins section. You could probably recreate everything in python dj

Yep, it is the execution of the idea where the money is. Most well known products are simple to explain / understand, but it was their implementation and ability to retain users on their platform that make them successful.

Just a note, this is mainly an Unity problem as they use an old Mono compiler and runtime. Additionally lambdas only create garbage when you capture local variables, and the normal GC is optimised to run without you noticing collections. Th

sigh this is why I don't usually get involved in arguments about whether something is considered AI or not; it just devolves into people trying to define and redefine what the word 'AI' even means. Final word: I follow this

And yet 30 years we could do all that with a whole lot of if statements. It would just return false positives a lot more. A couple of others have replied saying the same thing as you that this is 'AI', but it's not. As soon a

Say what you will about Zuckerberg, but this is a really cool project! Steps he took: 1. Connect his home devices (lights, thermostat, doors, music player, TV, CCTV etc) to his computer, so he can turn them on and off from it and in general

Blockly is awesome and often overlooked. It realises the idea of a real time scripting language, and should really be the thing devs reach for over flowcharts when they decide to implement a visual programming environment.

sigh this is really shitty news. In a time when governments are deciding more invasive surveillance is in everyone's best interest too, it's probably never been more profitable to be a hacker.

Once I learned some basic colour theory and applied it my work, customers found my products a lot more appealing. I now realise the right colour scheme can control minds - something I wish I'd realized years ago.

My main gripe with the campaign is all the maps are just set pieces in which they spawn waves of enemies. It felt like I was just playing multiplayer against bots.

The highest rated geography decks was what I used [0]. But yeah finding good quality decks is the hard part, though the geography ones generally do have pictures of the country and you guess the name. [0] https://ankiweb.net/

But a .json file surely will be 2x or even 3x as big as the .obj file, because of all the extra fluff the format adds. What is wrong with parsing an obj file, and building up your vertex and index buffer straight away? Parsing a .json file

I used this at work; while waiting for builds to complete I would use Anki [0] to learn all the names and locations of the countries. It worked pretty well, but it isn't a silver bullet. I retained maybe 50% of the information. [0] ht

Additionally when we speak we don't just 'replay' words; we add emotions and so on. Reminds me of this video [1] analysing how the actor Anthony Hopkins converts his lines to speech for his scenes. [1] https://www.

I want to fault this but I can't. Code reviewer who's not afraid to reject code? Check. Proper testing of code changes? Check. The process probably looks silly in this case because nothing went wrong. But with a hard-coded variabl
