It seems like it could be really good for users, but the fact that it's _required_ for any apps that use other 3rd-party sign-in options and that it's _required_ to be listed first among those options leaves a bad taste in my mout

I work in a role (Developer Relations) that involves a lot of conferences. Business travel, especially to conferences, has to be one of the biggest wastes of money and resources in corporate America today. People spend thousands to go to a

Reminds me of when Piketty's "Capital" was sold out everywhere. I was one of many people who bought it due to the hype. Apparently I was also one of many people who never read it: https://www.huffpost.com/en

I was an iTunes obsessive from 2003-2012. Then uploaded all my music to the cloud and moved on. Still miss the functionality though. Two days ago I wanted to rent a movie for an airplane, so I opened up iTunes on my Mac. I'm not kid

The comments section on this article makes me sad to be a part of the HN community. Show some empathy for a man who lost the best thing he ever had. He isn't asking for the world, actually in the article he didn't ask for anythin

True, although I think most people would be much sadder about missing the 1% of Everest. The whole reason to go there is to stand at the top of the world's highest mountain. If you just wanted a beautiful climb, there are many less d

A lot of good usage tips in this thread. One that not enough people use (IMO) is to get a notification inbox app. Like this one (although I use one I made myself): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co

I have just started to play around in the world of electronic music and have had my first real exposure to MIDI. I just want to say ... wow. Something like this is so rare. I have pieces of equipment from different decades that can talk

To be fair, the hike to Half Dome is about ~18 miles (9 each way) and only the very last bit is super crowded. If you skip the cables you still have experienced 99% of one of this country's most beautiful hikes.

This is really cool. I might buy one if I am feeling impulsive. I love purpose-built hardware like this! Would feel more comfortable if I knew they'd allow people to build and sideload games though. Aside: this website is very chopp

I'm all for a wide range of content on HN but ... what is this whiny rant about trail building doing on the front page? It's based on no evidence and presents nothing interesting. Plus the headline is clickbait.

I rent cars pretty frequently. Hertz is a disaster. Mean, dishonest, and proud of it. Once when I had evidence of their mistake on paper the clerk stared at the ceiling and said "I'm not looking at that" like some kind of t

I hate these things and all the things that go with them (NextDoor, etc). They promote a world where we're all locked in our boxes peeking through the blinds at each other and checking Twitter to see what's wrong. When we don

I think if there is anything that is truly American, its the expectation that customers and companies are always trying to trick each other. So much of American business culture is built around this assumed adversarial relationship.
