Actually I do personally offset my personal carbon footprint by taxing myself, via Klima: https://klima.com/ However that's not an efficient way for 8 billion people to get out of this problem.

Just. Tax. It. We have warmed the earth because we love comfort and money. We will never stop loving those things. So instead let's use the same systems to fix this (or at least slow things down). As an individual my largest carbon imp

Sometimes I think Americans don’t know how badly they want this. Americans will tell you how wonderful European cities are with their small streets and their public squares filled with great restaurants. They think we don’t have cities like

It's also the same for new teams or even new large projects. I have worked at {Big Tech Company} for 7 years and WFH has barely been a speed bump for me. Last week I decided to switch teams. My onboarding rate is glacial so far. Natura

Inspiring post! I am sitting here right now working on my side project, which I try to do for an hour or two before work every day. It really is amazing how much I get done in this tiny block of time vs. the 8 hours I spend at my full-time

I'd assume the tax would be proportional to salary, sort of like social security. Some conservative napkin math: let's say that people have about a 30-year working career and have on average 2 children. Let's say we want to g

It's great that so many companies (including mine) are offering more leave for parents but I don't think the incentives can ever be correct as long as this is a private company benefit. Companies will want to appear generous by gi

Uber is a great service for the customer. It made getting places within cities convenient and reliable. I don't think there's anyone who misses calling cab companies late at night. However their pricing was never real. They took b

I am not a lawyer but I am sure that any legal standard for ML has to be different than "isn't it just doing what humans do, but faster?" GitHub scanning billions of code files to build commercial software is different than y

I can't tell why this is on the front page of HN. Is the implication that Google would spy on Apple customer's data stored on Google Cloud? Google is evil/dumb/both at times but that's completely outlandish. I do fi

Most other tech companies that were 6 years old in 2004 are probably long gone today, so in that way they'd have 100% attrition.

Your website mentions Pull Request analytics which to me is more interesting than the Slack integration but it's light on the details. Could you share a demo or screenshot of what kind of analytics a team gets from Axolo?

Having to come in on Wednesdays and Fridays means you can't even divide up your week into two blocks. If it was Monday/Friday WFH then you'd be at home for 4 days (Fri-Mon) and then in for 3 days (Tue-Thur). That would open u

NFTs are dumb however some of the NFT markets have one cool thing that I hope sticks around: the artist gets a cut of all future sales. If you sell your NFT art for $10 and then someone resells it for $1M, you will get some percentage of th
