For car navigation I've used https://www.magicearth.com/ , which I've found to be really good.

My favourite example is linking the street names from OpenStreetMap with the gender of the persons name from Wikidata ID to produce visualisations of the gender distribution of street names in (European) cities: https://equalstre

With OrganicMaps you can (and are asked) to download an offline copy of the map data, based on OpenStreetMap. I use it whenever I'm out of country (and also a lot when not roaming).

But it needs to be done. And this site makes it easily available for any city you want.

You could give https://www.magicearth.com/ a try; OpenStreetMaps routing with (unspecified source) traffic information. I only ever use it abroad on vacation (with a rented RV) though, as I’m car-less, so your mileage ma

I'm genuinely interested, but when I zoom in to a 'random' town in the Rockies I see this - on OSM: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/40.3730/-105.5230 (or https://www.qwant.com/

Have you tried https://www.magicearth.com ? I’m using it on iOS where it supports Car Play. From a quick search it seems to me that it also supports Android Auto.

I often use https://github.com/thevangelist/FFMPEG-gif-script-for-bash for achieving this. It's a little helper script that does pretty much what is given in the linked blog post.
