The short of it is that there’s no money in photography, compared to videography. Movies routinely have 8 or 9 digit budgets, with teams of hundreds of people who have to collaborate to make footage coming from dozens of different cameras l

Simple question for anyone who’s familiar with this world of journalism: how does the author and the NYTimes cope with the fact that making such claims paint a huge target on the person they claim to have “unmasked”? Satoshi’s wallets are w

I’m an indie developer and I see the explosion in apps in my niche (creative tools for photography/videography). They wouldn’t have taken years to ship before, but easily a couple months. Now the moment any app with any value gets popu

Seriously. It's such a shame too because the author clearly cares about sharing their system, they went to the lengths of taking nice photos etc. - but then it's this low quality, meandering, repetitive, predictable AI writing. It

This is very neat! Some parallel thinking here, but it feels like it should be possible to build a software only version of this running entirely on a smartphone. Take a picture of the GameBoy screen, and the app reconstructs the source ima

Oh my god, yes. Spotlight on Tahoe is a joke. Why will it so often not display any results at all, even for system apps like Safari or Terminal? You’d think those would be in an always available cache guaranteed to always show up instantly?

I do and it doesn’t? Frequent waits/stutters just cmd-tabbing from Xcode to Simulator on fairly small projects.

The specs definitely agree with you. On the other hand, Apple pushes Xcode & iPhone development quite heavily to students (and not say Python or JS), so it’s definitely something they care about.

You must not be doing much else then. My M1 8GB Air did great before Tahoe; even medium complexity Xcode projects ran fine on it with other apps running. Since I made the mistake of upgrading it to Tahoe, it’s too painful to work in those p

When Steve came back Apple was months from bankruptcy; their product lineup was full of duds. Today Apple is the most profitable company in the world, and every product line is ruthlessly optimized/scrutinized to maximize their revenue

If by basic you mean running a simple Python script then sure; but try running Xcode + iPhone simulator (a basic development workload by Apple standards) with 8GB of RAM on Tahoe, and get ready for a lot of waiting and stutter.

A revival of the 12” MacBook would be amazing, but give it to me as a premium device - not an educational market positioning. I want a real M-series chip with RAM upgrades, an OLED display, etc.
