My conspiracy theory is that cell carriers knew IoT was DOA but wanted to get as much funding from the federal government as possible. I suspect this because of how eager they are to deprecate old networks to repurpose the spectrum for high

Every time I store crypto in an exchange, I lose it. Every time. I’m having visions of losing everything in my Gemini account, followed soon after by everything in my Robinhood Crypto account. Nobody seems to have been able to well-articul

I've read a few research papers that say essentially the opposite. I think you can find a study that supports your side most of the time.

We already have an issue in the US at least, of doctors waxing about how their favorite part of their job is the relationship with their patients, and how they take an “evidence-based approach” and take time to listen to their patients… onl

As an analogy, it’s like if, when Azure and AWS really started to gain popularity, everyone went out and bought their own racks to create their own “clouds”. I realize at that point they wouldn’t be “clouds” but that’s not the point… the po

I guess the justification for the title comes beyond what we are allowed to read for free because my takeaways were that A) as is always the case, stock market bubbles include companies that shouldn’t be included and B) Nvidia is enjoying a

Novamin is another “dental secret”. US toothpaste doesn’t have it, but studies consistently show it’s more effective than just fluoridated toothpaste and protecting teeth from decay. You would think that in a “capitalist, free-market” such

This is a variant of the “you are not your code” thing, and what I said with that post is that I don’t agree with the spirit of the expression. While yes I am not literally my code, that isn’t a reason to remove all emotion from it, especia

I feel like I’ve observed similar “childish” behavior from the Go community more so, and to some degree in even the C# community where people were upset at Microsoft’s probably-malicious decisions (like removing Blazor debugging from non-Wi

Yeah I think it’s because the Steam Deck is very similar to the Switch, whose sales have been declining drastically the last year or two. Recently a big wig at Nintendo said something to the effect of “we want people who already own a switc

I love that AMD is kinda-sorta paying attention to its AI offerings e.g. their CUDA competitor, ROCm, but I’m not seeing the next few years unfold as a massive W for enterprise hardware OEMs like AMD, NVIDIA, Dell, etc. as far as profits go

My experience has been that battery life is constant regardless of CPU TDP, reason being the U series CPUs (which I think Intel has since rebranded… U itself is a rebrand of Core m) are in smaller chassis so the battery is naturally smaller

I’m skeptical. This reminds me of Theranos, because it’s (to me) an incredible claim, yet “a company and its executives wouldn’t lie”- though this is a fallacy that predates even Enron ~20 years ago. On one hand, clearly “AI” is in vogue ri

My understanding was that the KDE distros I was using were still on X11 but I could be mistaken. Fedora 38 with GNOME (on Wayland) has been mostly bug free for me. Certainly better than KDE.

My experience has been that people who say “you are not your code” use it as an excuse to be brash in PRs, and as someone who sees code as a sort of art, the adage is even less-appealing. Surely there is a way to be considerate enough in th

The Bay suffers regularly from several natural disasters and I’m skeptical on the cost of living being lower. If we’re looking at “the Bay Area”, we should look at the “NYC metro area”, including cheaper suburbs like Yonkers and Hoboken. Th

I don’t see the appeal of the Bay Area. High cost of living, high taxes, high rent, but also droughts, wildfires, occasional tsunamis and hurricanes. NYC on the other hand has a giant river going through it (two technically), no wildfires,

When scraping websites, it’s often necessary to change your IP address to bypass the website’s anti-scraping measures. To achieve this, there are proxy services out there that are designed with web scraping in mind- so it’s easy to programm
