Apologies for downvoting you, I did so based on your original post of just "Seriously .. WTF?". I don't see his post as being WTF-worthy even though I disagree with it, nor do I condone any such posts since they add nothing of value to the

You're right that the pressure to actively promote diversity will fade as diversity increases, however I don't really see this as something we'll look back on and say "what were we thinking?"

In my experience micro instances are not suitable for on-demand services since they have no reserved CPU and frequently stop responding for minutes at a time. They're basically a way for Amazon to sell excess RAM to grid computing customers

It's the technical name for a solid indication. I've never heard it used in common parlance but that's how it's referred to in e.g. the USDOT Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

That seems quite optimistic. Do you have a source from someone who knows something about electronics engineering instead of networking?

"Law" is [theoretically] a consensus on "fairness". If we all went around killing each other based on our personal views, well that just wouldn't be very fair , now would it?

The unfortunate truth about humans is that nobody looks down unless it serves to further raise their own status, even if only in a subconscious, primal sort of way (consider how working with the poor is likely to increase respect towards yo

The left side is cut off and the right side overflows if the window isn't large enough to contain the full layout. Reducing the text size has no effect on the layout width, either. Columnized formats are annoying enough when they work but t

I'm pretty sure they do it because the keyboard can't source the required 500mA of current. They "proprietarize" it in order to keep people from plugging high-current devices in.

Fedora's Automated Bug Reporting Tool (abrt) uses this to automatically produce crash reports, which you can sanitize and approve to post in a central location for developers. I imagine that Ubuntu does something similar.

It's a free upgrade from warm standby, whereas SR requires a little more configuration. A good SR cluster also requires that log archiving (warm/hot standby) be set up in case the stream gets behind, otherwise you're at the mercy of whateve

Craigslist is minimal but reasonably well-designed. Amazon on the other hand I would go so far as to call awful. The #1 thing I'm looking for when I open a product page is the details about the product and it's below the fold . But still,

Indeed, micros have twice the peak CPU speed as small instances, but zero guaranteed cycles. Your instance will grind to a halt for minutes at a time when something preempts it. They're basically just a way for Amazon to sell excess RAM.

My understanding was that an issue with quotes lagging behind at the NYSE precipitated a kind of "order avalanche" where NYSE's quotes appeared to be better than the rest of the market, thus inviting more order flow, thus pushing their dela

This seems to be a bug in Google Groups -- if you have an expired session, it forces you to log in. But you were never signed in (or if you signed out) it doesn't ask and goes straight to the article.
