Agree whole heartedly. When I visit Chicago, I get the distinct sense that things were done deliberately, with beautiful architecture to boot. I suspect it has to do with the fact that the city burned down and they got a redo - twice.

Great response and agree wholeheartedly. Amazing the results you can get when you optimize for something other than revenue/number of users/page views/reach/etc.

Could not have said this better myself. I've struggled to articulate my dislike of Gladwell, but you've done it accurately here.

I don't necessarily agree with this, but FYI the thinking goes something like this: If people truly don't want to come in and work in the city/expensive area, the market should take care of it. Eventually wages will have to r

Do you not see your own contradiction? If you want to give people freedom of movement, that includes giving like-minded people of similar means the right to cluster up and live where they choose. This is why it's so hard to take the &q

Wow, fascinating, thanks for the book reference. Reading the wikipedia article made me uncomfortable - I doubt a book like that would ever be written today.

I have always wondered what exactly is going on in society: People in the US, more so than other countries, have a plausible chance of going to college, even if it takes going in to massive debt. Then, they will go on to find a mate who is

Not sure if it's me, but your insightly* form seems to have a broken validation rule. After I sign up for an information session, it says last name is mandatory even though I clearly filled it out. FYI.

I understand what you're saying, but most companies (not all) don't have dedicated staff to this sort of thing. They usually take other precautions like VPNs, etc. I'm not saying it's perfect, but for MOST people, this i

Throughtout my career the interesting thing about the level of scrutiny the "cloud" receives is that people rarely ever applied that scrutiny to themselves. Is it secure? Hm..I'm sure Salesforce does more work around security

Because of the climate we live in. You can get away with being racist as long as you're not white. The sob story in this piece is hardly moving - as someone that's been working in Silicon Valley for the past 8 years, it is an extr

I suspect it has as much to do with getting the company ready for IPO as much as anything else. Plenty of startups continue on with their "lavish perks". Also, I'm skeptical of the 25k/employee/year estimate. Source
