I think that works in the browser not the app, and the browser app is pretty nerfed. That is probably going to be my best bet though.

More and more the web is turning into cable TV. The other day youtube was showing me ads, without exaggerating, every ~20 seconds. This would happen for 3-4 minute stretches before they got less infrequent. This may not sound like much but

I stopped using thewirecutter.com for this reason (there are workaraounds, but in the end not worth the trouble). An account is now required just to read reviews. Over the years I've stopped using a number of sites - it's such an

I came to say the same thing - at one point only 10% of the screen was article text. What a god awful website.

Hm I hadn’t thought about this in that way - this is very true - we maintain a lot of close relationships with people we don’t spend nearly 40 hours a week with. And fwiw, I think I fall within this line of thinking - for me going to the of

Regarding it's not tax until it's sold, this isn't necessarily true. One little trick here is to take out huge loans using things like stock holdings as collateral. You're not paying tax on the money, and you can pay it

My average typing speed is 80-110, but I can max out at 121. This is for standard english words, not the crazy blocks of letters and special characters used for competition, which IMO isn't practical for the average user. I actually sp

Another one is machinery where you have to "enter" the machine to do maintenance. Think industrial ovens. You're supposed to turn off the circuit breaker and lock it with your own personal lock that only you have the key to.

The article makes the claim that these are examples of white supremacy in math: *The focus is on getting the “right” answer. *Independent practice is valued over teamwork or collaboration. *“Real-world math” is valued over math in the real

No one said they would over take - merely they that are a formidable foe and will have a presence no doubt. The kind of hubris in this thread tells me despite how asinine these articles are they hit HNs nerve.

I agree, but never say never. The Chinese will for sure have their own version of Silicon Valley and their giants will rival ours, no doubt. I think there will be other critical centers of tech innovation, similar to how Hollywood is Hollyw

Gotcha, that's why I added the bit about going through due process vs a private entity (especially an entity that runs an entire platform) deciding your speech is banned with no oversight. This issue gets complicated, as stated cureent

Maybe we're approaching this from different angles/aren't on the same page. I was looking at this through the lense of free speech/censorship.

The difference is our constitution doesn't explicitly say to remove speed limits. If it did, we'd have to go through proper process to get the constitution amended.

Often we confuse there being precedent for an event with the precedent being actually right. I understand both perspectives here: what's "morally" right and what is strictly by the book right. Personally, I lean towards the l

Going to college is this peculiar process where what you get out of it is commensurate with what you put into it, 100%. I was a math major in college. A lot of my exams were open book - because exactly like you said - it's mostly about
