Yeah this. My old 3700X rig would need to be power cycled 3-4 times before it booted. This turned out to be the Radeon GPU I chucked in it inflaming the boot sequence in some way. Put an nvidia one in and it was fine. The Radeon worked fine

If this is the new status quo then I suggest we find out how to fuck up the corpus as best as possible.

I'm more worried that this is unsurprising to me now rather than it being an issue. The sheer amount of fragmentation, poor engineering, poor commercial decisions and quality issues that surround the Microsoft ecosystem is quite frankl

I think it's more important that we have tried and tested technology in safety critical devices than be experimented on at the bleeding edge. Imagine a vehicle that was just a vehicle and not another platform to upsell shit on until th

No if the place burns down and there's an EV of any kind in there then they don't pay out. Covers explicitly eBikes and hybrids as well.

When insurers get on this you know there's a problem. Our insurers void our building insurance if anyone parks an EV in the underground car park...

Hey at least that’s deniably dishonest. We are tangibly dishonest when we fund a conference in our sector and win best product in the sector every year!

Anything T470 and before was good IMHO. That excludes the T440 where they screwed up the touchpad arrangement. I use exclusively apple M1 kit now and keep Linux in the cloud. I honestly can’t go back now to a thinkpad.

For a number of years I used to buy BIOS locked thinkpads off ebay for pittance, do this and sell them again as working. Made a small fortune. Most of them were from ex corps who just pulled the disks out and the disposal company didn'

Most of the time it's no the answer I know, it's how to find it. All I want to do is walk them through the thought process and instil some rigour in diagnostics.

Oh man no one cares any more. They fudge through it slowly when there's a problem and forget about it immediately. I've seen teams waste 3 months unable to fix a simple issue and I've walked in and seen it right away. Can I p

Same as the old land rovers I used to work on. 2mm was considered miraculous tolerances anywhere. If something didn't line up it usually got hit until it did.

It’s fine. You can take shortcuts in Ikea if you need to. Apple Watch compass helps :). My favourite is entering via the exit and just picking up what you wanted anyway. Arrive when it opens, leave 10 minutes later.
