given that the biggest software companies of the last 20 years have mostly been in the Bay Area, maybe there's a flaw in your assumption that there are "more experienced people pretty much anywhere."

Any children's literature from 1940's England is going to be classist to some extent, but sure, it's definitely classist as all get out.

This is only news to someone who has never watched Thomas. It took me until the second or third Thomas book and I was pretty surprised how authoritarian it all was - and that was circa 2000. But the books are from the 40's and like a l

"In the US we don't ration care nearly to the extent that they do in eg Canada" Sure you do. Poor people don't get any health care, people with insurance get all the health care they want. You ration based on income and

No one parodies Hacker News comments as well as Hacker News commenters. This is a piece about one guy's emotions and feelings about the rise of e-bikes. He's not policing anything. He's not setting government policies. He

As much as I give blue-beetle credit for having one of the earliest print references for that exact turn of phrase, I had definitely heard it before then. I don't think he really brought it into the zeitgeist, but then again I haven&#x

This has long been my assertion about elite undergraduate engineering schools. The teaching is usually just OK but their main advantage is that they get to "skim the cream" from the applicant pool.

It seems crazy that BAMTech grew out of MLBAM - no one would ever have predicted that Major League Baseball would end up being the starting point for one of the biggest companies in online video streaming.

It makes me feel proud that Canada has been North America’s up-and-coming startup center since I graduated from Waterloo over 20 years ago. That's a solid, consistent track record of almost being there.

Sure, but why? Why isn't there just one test? Why are merit scholarships handed out for PSAT results and not SAT results? I can't see any compelling reason other than making more work for the College Board.

Every state gets two senators and the one that's served the longest is called the "senior" senator and the other the "junior". By definition a state can't have two senior senators.
