I was confused too. It appears the page does not work on Firefox. I get a "customElements is not defined" error in the console in Firefox and none of the interactive sections render. The page works fine on Chrome.

Now that .NET Core exists, it is possible to develop on the .NET stack without licensing fees (By hosting on Linux and using an open source database) or using a third party implementation (Mono). It remains to be seen whether this will help

Netlify provides a global cdn and administrative features targeting statically generated pages. S3 is more generic in its goals so it doesn't provide either. Heroku on the other hand can host server applications which Netlify cannot so

Yes, ASP.NET MVC (Now ASP.NET Core) seems to be inspired by Rails a fair amount. Web Frameworks for both Java and C# have changed plenty over the years :)

The main benefits I can see for node are performance, ability to use the same language on front and back end, and possibly easier server side rendering for SPA applications. I don't think node comes out ahead in basic CRUD productivity

I agree, it is probably the OEM implementation. I have used both Carplay and Android Auto with an aftermarket Pioneer head unit and the phone can be plugged in before the car is turned on.
