Just a reminder that the environment at Pixar was abusive in other ways, notably in the other major figure being a serial harrasser that had moves designed after him to avoid his advances. I think that says a lot about Catmull and the leade

Ok. Thank you for the input. Google-fu brings this cite from dw: €1,500 ($1,700) per month gross for full-time workers, Germany has one of the highest minimum wages in the European Union. So it seems you made about $20k. Obviously, this i

That's totally fair. I am looking at this through a very US-centric lens, but I'd guess many HN readers are, and certainly Yang's tech supporters were. To also be fair, the user we are talking about doesn't appear to be

No, it didn't. It peaked at $1900 for 2000, which if we take into account inflation is about $3000, which is still a 1/4th of the $12000 most proposals put forward. There'sno point in exaggerating these things, is tehre? 1982

Unfair to paint academia like that. My interactions with tenured professors in my dep has been nothing but pleasant. They don't have egos (or don't act like it), are more than happy to help, and have been like a family to me my en

Someone on this thread called Drew "militant", which isn't as negative as it sounds but accurate. I will say, having observed his interactions in a few places, he rubs me the wrong way sometimes, even though it seems his hear

Hopefully this isn't ungenerous, but it seems like a marketing/signaling term that people on places like indiehackers use to market their products. If it wasn't labeled as such, a nondescript framework with the plugins + cont

I understand that's how lots of big companies operate, but I disagree that's how companies have to or should operate. The 80k thing isn't he notion that you'd get 80k success stories (you won't), but rather that if

There is a lazy argument that ignores the difficulty and hard work of putting out not only a working but a good application out, but the other end of that is using Dan's argument (which is valid), to dismiss criticism. To wit, Google h
