I think for me at least, the difference between "programming for fun/own projects" and "programming for work" goes deeper than the difference between say a company with neutral/bad values and a company you migh

Haha, that's actually something I've been doing for years as well. Had jaw issues from underdevelopment and premolar extractions since 2011. Only discovered that it was a known thing and started getting treatment in 2023 though.

Yes - basically I encountered all of the example situations on the page and knocked up the initial version in a day or so (originally for the "PHP API" scenario specifically). I did add some extra features like setting your own na

I was thinking about the commit mask thing recently but imagining it as a part of Git, or an extension. The project I'm on at the moment is a big legacy codebase that requires a bunch of dev-only code changes for: - functionality (setti

How would you not build the whole frontend in JS though? Use another compile-to-JS language?

I was wondering if that was a thing but no. It does have a little panel for more advanced operations and a toggle to invert them (roots, logs, exponents etc) but seemingly no reciprocal.

There was some interesting discussion around what data structures you should store at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40933110 (Engineering principles for building financial systems).

Yes! I was just thinking of this. My thinking started along the lines of tech workers getting together to apply for jobs, discussing who would be best for each role etc, so instead of each role getting 100 varying quality applications it ge

I'm not sure how much of it is people being (irrationally) scared vs. looking into native APIs and making the call that it just isn't worth it, given how much messing around you have to do to get basic functionality working vs. th

Regarding the types, I think it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking you have to try and force the domain concept into one of the commonly available data structures at the point of creation, i.e. the price "£3.99" has to

I didn't know about Lezer. I think I probably would have used it if I'd known - or at least tried it before Tree-sitter, as WASM obviously brings in extra complexity. Having used Lezer and CodeMirror a bit on a different project,
