I think most of the problems are due to people not understanding how async works (non blocking file descriptors and a call to poll).

Before async they had asyncore, which they now entirely removed. So the real early adopters of async in python are punished by having to rewrite their software to run it with a current version of python.

Threads use a lot more memory than a single async thread, and if the load is IO, 1 thread is enough. Speed might be similar but resource usage is not the same at all.

You'd save a bit of memory by letting 1 thread handle multiple connections, but that's about it.

In my own experience (EU company, acquired by USA) USA developers are good at burning money, less good at actually delivering a reliable product. But it can be due to terrible management hiring terribly.

Where I work there are like 2x as many front end developers as there is need for. They spend an insane amount of time doing meetings, they require approval of 2 different people for every simple CSS change. Their job is to do meetings, and

Fedora did this long before debian. I remember doing wget of an .iso file on /tmp and my entire wayland session being killed by the OOM killer. I still think it's a terrible idea.
