If I had a choice between an entry-level candidate with a MOOC certificate and an entry-level candidate with a Github repo with some interesting projects, I think the latter candidate would be in with a better chance. Not all candidates are

Host header attacks aren't exactly new [0]. However it seems that this is deliberately vague to prevent people from exploiting it whilst systems are patched. I note that the CVE details [1] are not yet available, so perhaps the actual

It's a good text editor, and when I'm working with lots of Dockerfiles and Terraform configurations it's replaced Atom and Notepad++ as my go-to editor. The JavaScript editor's not half bad either. But for serious develo

In terms of remote freelance perhaps TopTal might be considered. I have never worked for them but I have hired TopTal staff before and found them to be excellent. Anecdotally they all seemed pretty happy with their jobs.

Yes, OP might consider an IT position where programming is a smaller part of the role. As a former programmer you'd probably make a formidable system administrator. I know more than a few who struggle to copy and paste Powershell scrip

I'm not really a networking guy, so perhaps this is an obvious question, but why don't you have a failover configuration to send traffic over VPN or the public Internet? I would expect the latency to increase but otherwise still w

Perhaps this is well known but I discovered this only two weeks ago - you can buy yellow-tinted glasses to block blue light. I wear them for an hour or so before bed (which my partner mocks me for) but it really seems to help me get to slee

It's certainly impressive for a one person company. Is that 50k a month profit though? I co-own a company that turns over a similar amount but you wouldn't be jealous of my bank balance.

Why would that be insane? I'm sure that you can negotiate a better deal if your use-case is beyond what a normal customer would use.

Another pattern you might consider is setting an expiry date on a database row. You only show values where the expiry date is null. Every night you have a cronjob or some other process that deletes all objects that have expired.
