Sorry to offer criticism, but this is the most unethical thing I've ever seen. Not only that, the market for this sort of trading is already stitched up by eBay, and they do it better by not being so blatant about the source of the discoun

This is nice validation to have. For a while now, I've been wondering if I'm just a bit precious for asserting that I absolutely need full focus and no interruptions otherwise my productivity dies. Still, makes me wonder how on earth I'm e

It looks great, but obviously I haven't been able to play with it yet. Out of interest, is it built on Cappuccino? That'd be very YC-meta!

Ha! Indeed! I would absolutely consider doing that if I had time. I'm kinda all-in on my own startup at the moment and I'm doing my level best to not be distracted by contracting. And oh how right you are about it not being especially fun!

Somewhat similarly, as a stopgap in '07 I built a Django (well really, Python and duct tape) Sarbanes-Oxley SOD system over a month or so. I had to deal with well over a million records, but fundamentally it was a pretty simple ask, laying

See how the hard drives are mounted back-to-back? I'm guessing that is designed to cancel the mechanical noise by putting the drives 180deg out of phase from each other, extending the life of the drives. I believe that is patented (by Avid

I'm so mentally attracted to the concept of not formulating a business plan other than "make something people want, and then put it up for sale" - but in my business it hasn't been viable. To get the loan that we've taken out, and to get me

Instead of addressing my questions, you went with the ad hominem and called me a sycophant. Nice one. Love your generalisation about blogging and (alleged) punditry being a primary responsibility too - because clearly SO many CEOs take thi

This is just tall poppy syndrome. Joel runs his successful business, bothers to blog about it since he founded it years ago, graciously comes on here and responds to people - nice of him, huh? So why so bitchy? You clearly disagree with hi

I love the principle of Today/Soon/Whenever. Your app is a brilliant idea, and I reckon it will gel well with how my brain works. I'm going to build something simple around this idea for our office.

I'm full time as-of next Wednesday, so I clicked 'Full Time' - is that cheating? It's arguable anyway - the only reason I've been doing consulting for the last 2 years was to raise enough money to get the business going and have some reason

That's a very broad demographic - Can you slice finer? The responses you have already are spot on, but they apply to a lot of other demographics too. If your app has a very broad market there's no point going after every 18-25/female becau

Absolutely - I'd advise licensing if you can so that you own the code, and if you'd like to retain the libraries you will have to anyway. You'll absolutely need a lawyer. Lawyers who deal with IP at this level are usually hard to find - whe

I'd be surprised also. That's kinda why I'm asking, because I do live in a slight monoculture, and I'm keen to get a measure of what's happening "out there". Thanks for the comments on QT, I hadn't looked at QT for a very long time and it

Sorry about that, I considered adding the BSDs, but I didn't really think anyone would seriously use it on the desktop. I'll add it to the poll options.
