Anyone who learned to read before their third birthday is exceptional and not an example from which we can draw inferences. But good on her! My son is similarly talented with language and it’s a beautiful thing to watch.

I don’t understand the negative talk about Cocomelon. Kids learn a lot through songs. Cocomelon is full of songs. My son enjoys singing many of them. I’m happy with this.

And I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s still the best language for teaching programming to a novice. At least for a little while.

That abbreviates to LCD. If we could make it LSD somehow, that would help to explain the hallucinations.

Lesson plans are inherently individual to a teacher. So even if a year’s worth of lesson plans was created and shared, and even if I thought they were good, it would still take non-negligible time for me to absorb them and mentally plan how

Grover thinks the purpose of Markdown is that the author knows what HTML tags will be generated. That was his purpose, but it’s long outgrown that!

Love it. Just two questions from curiosity. One. In your experience of using it for a while now, what is a typical tree size? What’s the highest it’s ever been? Two. Why did you write it in C? Several other languages would surely make it mu

I have some specific ideas on high school maths education that I’d like to develop into a book or two for self-publishing. Working is currently one serious obstacle to that.

I use an iPad Pro as a teacher. I value the pencil and the screen size. Much of what I do ultimately involves A4 paper, so the screen size is a good match. A lot of teachers now project their iPad screen wirelessly in class, sometimes almos

Society as a whole suffers because of the disrespect shown. Every person committing the act you describe edges society marginally closer to a world in which little respect is shown at all. (I acknowledge this is specious!)

I recommend checking out uiua.org for fun. The docs are well written and the concepts, while foreign to most, are ultimately accessible and interesting. k and uiua are in different branches of the APL family.

My little boy has loved them since ~12 months. He doesn’t get the concepts, of course, but they are [1] so well written with the infant, and the adult reader, in mind. And one day he will get the concepts earlier than I ever did. His first

“Bad” depends on purpose. For teaching novices a bit is programming, I think old-school BASIC with line numbers and goto is hard to beat.

I believe the continuum hypothesis is an example of an undecidable statement. That is, we know that the integers have cardinality of “aleph null”, the smallest infinity. And we know how to construct the “next” level of infinity using someth
