> But I only spent a hundred here or there; how did it blow past $4700? This is basic human frailty and completely orthogonal to mathematical ability.

I too love logic/rhetoric nitpicking. Not sarcastic! Your reply is illogical. GP only identified a false argument. They didn’t say there was no valid argument on the page. There is no straw man.

It is indeed amazing. I’m don’t generally remember dreams in much detail, but have sometimes been amazed to recall that part of my dream was reading a newspaper or magazine article. Like, close up. So my brain was manufacturing copy _and_ d

This appears to be a misinterpretation. GP did not say or suggest that any standard or manifesto is pointless, only that it was possible to use good versioning systems prior to their creation.

Maybe the scratch notes could be published outside of the paper itself. It’s not an ideal solution, of course, because links can go stale. But maybe it’s a starting point.

That experience is very limited, and the word “most” in that sentence is a.most certainly very inaccurate. Some people are noisily turning vim into vscode. The rest of us love vim exactly for what it is, but love neovim a little more for an

A judicious balance of “what comes naturally” and “what research shows is a good idea” is probably best.

I really appreciated this post. Bram was a hero for his long term dedication to such a great piece of software, and for the great design he put into it that made so many people’s lives better. Justin and the other Neovim developers are hero

It wasn’t a recommendation. It’s good to be made aware of things that are potentially interesting even if sometimes they turn out not to be.

That is a massive exaggeration, indeed outright misrepresentation, of what people are saying.

Take a look at the vim-sensible plugin. No need to install it, just see what the generally agreed sensible settings are.

You’re absolutely right that this can happen, but wrong that it is representative. Let’s take all the serious vim users in the world. How many have this kind of plugin hell experience? A tiny percentage. Serious vim users don’t try to creat

The thing is, using a plugin like ‘surround’ Is just so nice. When you’ve chosen to use a pleasant and powerful editor, I don’t see the benefit in depriving oneself of further pleasure and power.

False. The fd mapping would only apply in insert mode. Jumping to d only occurs in normal mode.

I looked in the dictionary while replying. A swath is a broad group. Your example is a narrow group. I replied carefully, not wanting to nitpick. But I think the distinction is important.

I think your experience report of the NeoVim subreddit is severely misrepresentative of reality. I have never seen a RTFM response. Many answers point to exactly which part of the documentation would be helpful. Your Jenga tower of dependen

The iPads with buttons: too complicated for a whole swath of our population, or just for a small specific age range? I wouldn’t want the take-away point from your experience there to be over-generalised.

Navigating back a word while in insert mode is just unnecessary. The purpose of insert mode is to insert text, and that’s it. This occupies a very small proportion of total editing time.
