Thank you for the explanation, that actually makes sense. But I still think that serving a 429 is some kind of backwards old-school sysop kind of response. "It's the right HTTP-Code! hohoho!". It's obviously running ngin

I just saw a video from James May yesterday about some electric hypercar where he comes to the conclusion that the battery is best placed where the engine would be in a mid-engine car. Because so the mass is at the center of gravity.

I 100% agree with you that greater intimacy leads to greater risk of being harmed. The thing I don't agree with is "human intimacy cannot occur without substantial mutual harm". That sounds a bit too absolute to be true and i

I had the opposite experience. Bought a 75” tv there. It had an extremely uneven backlight (clouding). Support told me to send it in for inspection. Tv broke on the way there. They kept it for three weeks and sent it back without mentioning

If you just want to learn the basics, you'll be faster with a "modern" editor with mouse and some basic keyboard shortcuts. But if you really master Vim, I would say it's faster and more powerful than any modern editor (

I agree with the "speed is not the solution" point of view. But if you're used to your car behaving in a certain way (accelerating fast in this case) and then your subscription expires and suddenly, while overtaking someone,

Only in the north. In the south, Bavaria, you need to keep so much space between a wind farm and the nearest house that it’s impossible to build one (and that’s not really an exaggeration).

They also wanted to clear a whole forest for that mine. After lots of protest it looks like at least parts of it may be preserved. That forest will most likely do more good for the climate than five wind mills. https://en.m.wikip

I'm actually in the same boat with goosh.org (also paying for it myself). I think bing results might be cheaper at scale because I see a bunch of bigger services using it (like duckduckgo, but they will have a special deal for sure). I

“max-width: 38rem it appears that the default font size for most browsers is 16px, so 38rem is 608px. supporting 600px displays at a minimum seems reasonable.” I’m not an expert in CSS, but I don’t think this makes sense. Why base the width

It’s interesting that since this was written the epic game store was started and I think it’s quite successful. Although, just like the article predicted, epic did it with lots and lots of money.

Sorry to be off topic, but what’s a GR? Just a typo of GF? I searched but the only thing I found was Golden Retriever and I don’t think they are very good at writing fiction in general.

I rooted two rather old kindles and it worked via USB and without any soldering. So maybe if you want to do this, it’s easier to go for a slightly newer model and do it without opening it up?

For me (1981) it's already 9%. That would mean that approx. 1 in 10 friends would already have died. I don't think thats remotely true for me. Most likely the global distribution of deaths is really uneven.

As cleaning a toaster most likely involves sticking things into it (like a brush, maybe even a knife to scrape off the burnt stuff) and you also don't want your kids to stick stuff (especially metal) into a toaster, I'd say it
