That's a fair question and, not being hugely familiar with the legal system, I'm not sure what that would fall under. I'm thinking something along the lines of intentional deceit or unfair/manipulative representation of

It’s always about events that happened and not about things that didn’t happen. This conversation and the above quote in particular remind me of this article posted here a while back: "Why the world is not falling apart" (

As others have said, the salaries aren't particularly enticing and this is being felt strongly in a place as expensive as Vancouver. Interestingly, I think this might drive a boost in immigration - the reason I can stay in Vancouver is

This is very nice! A while back, I attempted to interact with Bluetooth/BLE on Windows 10 with Node.js, which didn't go particularly well... I switched to ChakraCore (pretty rough at the time but required for node-uwp support) whi

This is really interesting. Looking at the references in the paper, the first one is about racial bias. A question I've often asked myself is (in various other forms): rather than having the bias be put forward by the researchers in th

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody for the great feedback! I'm really glad I turned to HN for this. Some people mentioned OpenMedia, who happen to be based in Vancouver where I am, so I'm planning on giving them a shout soon.

A random, cursory look didn't yield anything particularly interesting: lots of fairly shallow emails, google groups conversations, disgruntled citizens writing in all caps and a fair bit of spam. Granted, I'm also relying on Googl

This is great, thank you so much for sharing. My significant other is an early childhood educator and always laments that the people who build and design computer software/hardware don't understand how children think and interact

IFLScience is nice to expose people to a scientific idea on a social network or something, but I'm not sure they have their place here. In any case, if you're looking for something a bit meatier, I highly recommend reading this ar

I have a particularly strong attachment to Scotland, and as most Scottish people have, I would have voted to remain in the EU, however messy it is, though I suppose my opinion on the matter has little relevance since I can't vote. More

If you ever feel like being dehumanized in the most senseless fashion, immigration is definitely the way to go. Currently an immigrant in Canada, I recently went through a bit of an ordeal. I've been a Temporary Foreign Worker for a fe

How these agencies have manage to thrive for so long, and continue to do so, remains utterly baffling to me. In the US, the FBI, the NSA and the CIA (and I'm sure others) have been caught red-handed on so many occasions and ... nothing
