Yes they are abysmal failed states but the parent said "government". The regimes in those countries are still in place and have survived. The rulers and recipients of their patronage are still in charge.

Venezuela and Syria have survived much worse with fewer resources. There will definately be enough money for the police and military.

Maybe the price? My city recently built an overpass over a single rail track that cost the same amount - $50 million. A tunnel like this would probably be a 10x cost run by most companies.

I wonder if stuff like this is ever a form of parallel construction for insider trading. It sounds cool - so maybe it passes the sniff test and avoids further scrutiny?

There are no more server CPUs with less than 6 cores though. We could happily manage with just 2 dedicated to SQL server, but you have to license all the cores you have. So 3K worth of low end hardware ends up costing you several multiples

Nice work. I feel like APIs often accept form encoding solely because it allows you to show curl examples. However since nested objects don't always flatten nicely you end up with a special syntax or do not allow nesting at all. In thi

Totally naive question, but how does this work? I have trouble seeing the extra security value. Does "select passport from customers" no longer work as a query? Or do you store an encrypted value in the table that you then decrypt
