I think that the author is wrong in saying that HN is toxic but I don't think that the article should be flagged. If HN flags this article, then I might be slightly more inclined to agree with the author.

I'm not familiar with these specific cases but I do think that many popular open source authors are extremely rigid and uncompromising. And yes, personal attacks against prospective contributors is a very harmful thing for the project.

If you specifically select a bunch of successful people and pitch them against a bunch of random people then of course the successful people group will perform better. I'm sure though, that if someone finds a group of successful people

It's interesting that 10 years ago, people avoided this subject completely - The authors of such papers would have been accused of being jealous and lazy. Now, the idea that we are not a meritocracy is basically common knowledge, it se

It's refreshing to read an article which challenges common wisdom. I've endured a lot of suffering at the hands of the microservices fan club. It's good to see reason finally prevail over rhetoric. It would have been nice if

I understand the intent of this fund but I think that it's both racist and sexist. Why doesn't someone create a VC fund for people with disabilities instead? Or maybe a fund for ugly people? Or a fund for socially awkward people?

It seems crazy, I can imagine the horror if the pod gets stuck between rocks while going through a narrow tunnel. The simplest solution is to give the children swimming and scuba diving lessons from inside the cave and then once a safe rout

I don't know if what it's promising is actually possible. Ultimately you need to trust that the machine/node which claims to be running your code is in fact running it as-is and not running some hacked version of it which beh

One thing that I've learned though is that you should try to work for rich people who believe that we're in a meritocracy. When these people see talent, they tend to think that it's much more valuable than it actually is.

Most people are not rational. A lot of people are very good at recalling facts and pattern-matching, but they don't even come close to understanding the full complexity and the effects of what they're doing or saying.
