Agreed. I would add that "living on mars" would be kind of a matter of speech. I mean, it would be more accurate to say you would live in a box that happens to be located on the surface of mars. Mars is such an hostile environme

I think pressure is much more of a problem than temperature. Thermal insolation does not fail catastrophically. Pressure regulation kind of does.

I think both directions are basically going to the same destination. I believe we should worry more about the "artificial human" than about "artificial intelligence". To get to the artificial human there are several pa

Not sure it's so simple. Is LaTeX plain text? Officially it is, but by the same standard so is PostScript or PDF. Truly the limits are blurry. Even assembly code has an ASCII representation.

I was suspecting so. I presume whoever did it followed the link, noticed the engine was using asm.js and not wasm, and thought I was mistaken. But truly what the engine uses depends on the browser and its configuration.

Thanks for reminding us of openworm. The fact that scientists are still working on simulating an animal with barely a thousand cells surely relativizes claims about simulating a mammalian brain, let alone a human one. Frankly, it's ev

I once wondered the same thing, and I stopped very soon as I considered something as simple as a 60W light bulb. 60W is 60J per second. 60J is about the energy it takes to weigh 6kg up one meter. So basically to keep a 60W light bulb lit,

Well, if English-speaking countries can't keep up with Chinese-speaking ones as far as AI is concerned, hopefully they will at least make enough progress to do accurate Chinese-to-English machine translation.
