I'm scared of running stuff on servers. Jk. But kinda. I have a little hobby website. Mostly for fun, I keep rewriting it in different languages, stacks, and deployment methods. At one point it was on a $5 AWS server. It continuously r

Podcasts are an important part of my language learning stack. There's a few intermediate French podcasts I listen to. They intentionally speak more slowly and clearly. Sometimes I'll listen to them multiple times, understanding a

It wasn't FDIC insured, was it? For example, you can buy crypto with Robinhood, but any uninvested cash is stored in partner banks which are FDIC insured. Even if the CEO of Robinhood wanted to commit fraud, would they be able to? How

Haha but it feels weirdly metaphysical, right? Like maybe there is some sort of deeper analogy there.

Fair enough... I consider that all propaganda. Anyone acting with an agenda, especially when they're trying to persuade without openly disclosing their agenda. Even more so, there's plenty of people who post stuff (like the fringe

The funny thing is there's not really that much propaganda on TikTok, much less pro-CCP. Sure there's the potential, but it's really not even much of a thing IRL.

I think that's all pretty fair. Put dishes in the dishwasher and start. Strip the beds. Pick up trash, quick counter wipe down. Only difference is the trash which could just be an issue if the host isn't coming for a little while.

Most of those things are pretty common courtesy... The cleaning fee is for deeper stuff like vacuuming, scrubbing the sink, toilets, etc... And yeah I think it also captures the one-time effort of the "turnover", where the host ha

Wappalyzer extension says it's using Firebase, are you? If so, why mixing it with all the AWS stuff? I've been using Firebase for quick mini-projects and it's fun and quick it is for prototyping. If you use it for hosting, no

AI helper has taken me pretty far. I use rails day to day, but I've been using AI to help me build a few quick mini apps with React+Firebase. In rails I'm pretty comfortable, but I'd still use AI for quickly spitting out FE s

Still privacy nightmare and creepy. There's plenty of public info on people, that once collected and assembled into one place is basically stalking. Not saying it's not a cool idea though :)

I think I just searched for some translated terms. Once you find some accounts, you can see who follows them, and then see what other accounts they follow, etc.

I've found ChatGPT great for this. It's way better than a translator at giving you context for grammar and phrases. My stack is Duolingo + Podcasts + Instagram + ChatGPT: Duolingo - daily consistency, grammar Podcasts - "comp

I'm a cyclist and support these types of laws. But I could imagine someone making the same case for a car (or a motorcycle?). You can have high visibility and come towards a 4-way stop in the middle of nowhere and there's not anot

If someone injures you, and your insurance doesn't cover it, can't you sue them? If you do and they can't afford it, can you put them into debt? Seems reasonable rather than you going into debt for medical bills?

Oh yeah, I guess it's better to limit the use of that. But I actually don't count using those as metaprogramming. It's just part of the framework, and you have to know about those features. Rails has a lot of magic and I thin

One rule I try to go by, and I feel like this should be a pretty moderate take but isn't actually that commonly stated: If we're talking about Rails at least, then meta-programming/magic/indirection, all that should be v

Service fees are ok, as long as they're upfront. My mom runs her house as an Airbnb now. She puts a ton of work into the turnovers. So it's a similar amount of work whether guests stay for 2 nights or 7 nights. So yeah, it can be

What is the data? Doesn't iOS limit access to anything outside of the app? It has to ask to access contacts, photos, location. If you just use it to scroll through stupid videos, what does it even have access to?
