Google Adwords is absolutely ripe for disruption. Actually all of Google's services, except Mail and Search, are not great.

Have to agree. Great article but it just confirmed my decision to stay away from app engine. What's the purpose of paying for something that's both harder to use and more costly than a traditional server? Datastore is great but I

Same here. I think the Pixelmator and Sketch combo will be the tools of the trade for web design in the future.

Curious are you physically located in California? I know that lot of states are starting to claim you a "nexus" if you take a trip through them or do any sort of business with them. It's a real problem if every state you tou

I would add it's a series of taxes directed at the self-employed. If you work for a large company or for the state/federal government you'll have insurance already. If you're unemployed, you'll qualify for a subsidy

The buildings in Seattle are also not prepared for a quake of the magnitude expected to hit it soon. California building codes are much stricter. Downtown Seattle is also built on a mudflat that caused countless problems in early Seattle hi

I'm not sure I'd consider Apple, Google, Genentech, and Oracle "cute apps". I think for every Apple you're going to have 100 maybe 1000 companies that are near worthless. It's just part of the chaotic process t

True but you also don't see "homosexuals welcomed" on many hotels either. There are much more subtle ways of communicating those things.

My point was the sample size was small but the "experiment" here is very similar to one seen with taxi cabs and other older services that are very similar to the new online "sharing economy". The discrimination in the fo

I don't think you'd have to monitor it any more than you would monitor a business that puts up the rainbow flag on their window. I think the key here is to make it voluntary and not push it on people or make it a top-down standard

There is a huge issue with racism in the US but you're wrong to think it's a US problem or that it's worse in the US on average. Spend a few months in Europe, especially the east and south, and you'll quickly change yo

This is so depressing and even though sample size is small it rings 100% true. I think it's just a symptom of an inherently racist and unfair world and is not Uber or Airbnb's fault. The same thing happens with names at the resume

For me the $100/hr minimum is an excellent filtering mechanism for serious clients. As a consultant I think there's a place for this, a place for Elance, a place for Odesk, and a place for AWS Mech Turk (AWS's horribly named

Having lived in the area, I definitely agree. I think on the Peninsula it would be higher. Our federal system doesn't deal with these geographic disparities well, especially when it comes to things like federal taxes and college aid. $

I agree for most areas of the US. But for someone living with a family in NYC or the Bay Area, I think this would still be middle class. A lot of this comes down to housing and rent costs.

It should be noted that Professor Cole is a direct beneficiary of the aggressive student loan collection practices. This story reads like something out of a "Tale of Two Cities". I wonder if the ending will be similar.
