I was thinking the same thing. There were literally the same arguments against rails in 2006-2008: - it won't scale - too much magic - it's is too opinionated. Only good to do things one way - it's ok. but only for toy apps -

Great story. Uber sounds like a wonderful place to work at. To those commenting that this is a BS self-empowerment article, I disagree. The founder probably knew that these design issues were a problem. A competent designer gave a criticism

This is a great point. Obviously a city needs towing, city workers need to be paid, and tow companies need to be paid. There's no problem with that but the fees are clearly outrageous and a form of hidden taxation, very regressive taxa

I'd take the mafia over what they have in SF any day. The mafia is significantly cheaper and they actually give better protection than the police. I used to live in the North End of Boston, an area which used to have little active poli

Here's a thought. We don't need them and they do much more harm than good. They didn't protect us against 9/11, mislead us into Iraq, took 10 years to capture Osama Bin Laden, didn't foresee the collapse of the Sovi

You're forgetting that a dog "alert" on a vehicle provides probable cause. If an officer suspects someone in a car has cash, here's the algorithm to get probable cause every time. - Pull car over for x (x=illegal lane ch

This is one of the major problems with unregulated and unsupervised NSA activities (and other agencies). We've seen them blatantly lie about their actions, to the public and to congress. They've lied under oath without any repercu

This disheartens me but thank you for your effort. We know the TSA is already on buses and trains. I think more and more areas are going to be deemed "4th amendment free" zones (schools, airports, football games, buses, trains, 10

Regulation is the biggest obstacle with Uber. The Taxi services have the city regulators in their pockets. Google, with their influence and money, may help solve Uber's biggest issue.

You certainly don't have to do this. But let's face it programmers have a higher wages, in part, b/c the technology is constantly changing and the supply of those who keep up is small. Since the structural barriers to most de

I wish people would stop fetishizing sociopaths. Common sociopaths are actually pretty boring. Most of them are very, very prone to addictions and substance abuse and spend a lot of time getting money for that. They follow the path of least

Are we really ready to put Facebook on the level of big banks? Many of those banks have admittedly participated in gangsterism and fraud. I think FB should be held to a somewhat higher standard than the most hated institutions in the US tod
