Well that's depressing - Queensland currently sitting at 3rd last. Given our agriculture is also a massive emitter (beef cattle the biggest earner), we are really not pulling our weight.

Neither - they are talking plasmids, which are a precursor to both. Plasmids are circular DNA that are used in cloning. Cloning is the step-by-step process by which a construct is engineered (e.g. promoter and gene sequence placed in the

Who said it was harmless? I'm sure any surgery isn't without risk. The mechanism for the most obvious short-term risk is very well known - infection. For that reason alone one has to weigh the benefits and really consider whethe

Is there a causal link between the surgery and the increase in long-term disease risk, or were patients who were more likely to get the surgery (because of more severe symptoms or more frequent occurrence of infections) at greater long-term

Sequencing has errors - some in the PCR stage so not corrected by greater read depth for short reads (long reads are much more error prone). Genomes are dynamic - they change. You are looking at the progeny or regenerated plant, not the o

If you could write software that could distinguish off-target CRISPR mutations from sequencing data, you'd have quite a valuable tool. Shouldn't be too difficult if indistinguishablity is a declared myth.

That isn't really correct. If you delete a section of DNA, then the difference is that piece of DNA has been excised. Given that excision (or duplication) can occur naturally, there is no way of telling whether the change is due to C

The reason why these kinds of food will not be regulated is fairly simple; unlike previous GMOs, there is no way to tell them apart from 'naturally' bred counterparts. A regulatory regime would have to solely rely on the develope

I'm still on ADSL2+, and even feel a little the same way. It's a rock solid 14 Mbps line speed for all hours. Was set for 2019 roll out of NBN HFC, but, quite coincidentally, noticed some guys out the front of our unit today, a

I agree with this to a point. Obviously, genetic information can be quite informative for non-complex traits or diseases caused by variants in only 1 or a few genes. The reality is the genome isn't the complete instruction set for wha
