You misread. They make a mobile app that streams stuff from their cloud. Therefore, to calculate actual delays in their app, they must add network response times and touch latency.

This is only semi-on-topic, but it's really cool how Ghost is a non-profit organization: http://ghost.onolan.org/what-it-means-to-be-non-profit and the post does a good job explaining what that means and why it was cho

Makes sense, but I've never ever used such a network and so would gladly turn off this feature. :( It looks like the iPhone is (or was, as of 2012) uniquely bad because it leaks recently used MAC addresses, while it's common for d

Heard that saying before, but didn't know it was from Stroustrup! That definitely adds to the hilarity. In that case, let's hope Haskell and Rust move ever more solidly from the second group over to the first :) Always gonna be st

Rust[1] is aimed squarely at this use case. The GC and runtime are optional. A toy kernel[2] and Linux kernel module[3] have already been written in it. The language is young and still unstable, but it's being designed by veteran C++ p

Take a look at the Ember examples at http://emberjs.com/ . They're doing a lot more with a lot less code. Backbone had its day, but the world is moving on, and a new project that only offers Backbone-equivalent function

I wanted to say that YouTube was acquired early in its history and would probably be worth much more today, but after looking into it, the data doesn't necessarily back that up. In July 2006 a few months before YT's acquisition, Y

I gotta respect the Tent.io crew. After trying their Twitter clone last year (made HN front page a couple times around July/Aug 2012), I was ready to write off the whole thing as a failure — didn't think they were building things
