Link to the project? I always like to see examples. Blogging about your experience using it would probably get you some decent traffic, too.

Any good open-source (or closed) examples of web apps built on this? The idea sounds neat, but I'm wary of concepts that aren't seeing real-world use. Node.js has momentum, Luvit has a little bit of momentum, this? In the web development

Lua's behavior here is identical to Ruby's, where 0 is also a truthy value: $ irb irb(main):001:0> if 0 then puts "0 is truthy!" end 0 is truthy! => nil irb(main):002:0> if (not 0) then puts "(not 0) is tru

1 and 2 both evaluate to true, yet they're not the same thing, so the comparison `1 == 2` is false. Is that equally problematic to you? There's no way to avoid this problem in any language that allows coercing a number to a boolean. There

I documented the tests on my project log: https://scott.mn/projects/luasynth.html#filter_effect In short, I ran C and Lua implementations of the same command, 6 times each, using the built-in "time" command in bash. Averaged the "user" ti

Lua's great. I recently used it to rewrite a small audio effect framework[1] based on an older project of mine in C[2]. To my astonishment, without any optimization efforts on my part, the LuaJIT version of one effect ran faster than the

Well, you can write client-side web apps in Lua: https://github.com/mherkender/lua.js Unfortunately, there is a bug in Lua.js and it doesn't support the preferred method of creating modules[1]. For this reason, I've yet to get a substan

Oh, cool. That does seem to work, when using GNU coreutils. So either: 1. I never thought to try that. How silly of me. OR 2. Perhaps tee behaves differently on OpenBSD (which I was using at the time).

Maybe I'm missing it, but this doesn't seem applicable to what my sponge program (and joeyh's) are intended to do: to modify a file "in-place". joeyh's example: sed "s/root/toor/" /etc/passwd | grep -v joey | sponge /etc/passwd My

Depending on the application, speed may matter only for 5% (or less) of your code. If you can write that 5% in Ruby or Python, same as you wrote the other 95% in, you save a lot of difficulty compared to calling out to a C library — even if

I've seen very mixed reviews of the Android USB sticks, especially at the low end (~$40 as you say, many are more like $70)... they seem unreliable. They also don't have quite the large community hacking on them that the RPi has. Not an exp

This assumes a linear relationship between hours worked and amount accomplished. I doubt such a relationship holds after 5 or 6 hours. I bet many programmers would get more done in a 6-hour day than an 8-hour day, due to increased energy.
