IMO giving Engineers “space to learn” and “work with new tech” is one of the greatest challenges any Engineering leader faces. I have a pet theory that the soa/micro services trend has in large part been driven by this problem - giving

I think OP’s question was why do we need an “ungoogled chromium” in the first place, shouldn’t stock Chromium already be ungoogled? And if it’s not, in practice how is it then different from Chrome?

It’s already happening IMO. Tech wage growth has been pretty slow esp outside of the FAANGs, and many agreed upon “best practices” are commonplace in the industry now, leaving less room for differentiation among workers

Even more, the words “bad” and “good”. Yes we should be using the words “simpler”, “more maintainable”, “more approachable for newcomers” etc and their opposites. Engineering is all tradeoffs- let’s be precise on our adjectives unless we’re

The good thing about starting with just server rendering is that you can sprinkle in react if you just have one section with heavy interactivity and build from there, whereas it’s harder to go the other way around

Lobbying and corporate interests has hollowed out our government, simple as that. Great for the markets though, which in turn causes those few who make it into the investing class to vote for more of the same, creating a vicious cycle.

You need to have available funds to do this though - for those fully invested, they will have to wait for their paychecks/contributions, which could be peanuts compared to their current exposure

There’s more nuance to this - poorly written unit tests (eg excessive mocking and things like testing private methods) actually make it harder to refactor code, and using strongly typed languages vastly reduces the importance of unit test
