I'd be quite curious how much money keeping Rails up to date has cost Shopify over the years, compared to the benefits. Compared to a lighter weight framework like Sinatra, Express, etc., it seems that Rails is only a benefit if you we

All it takes is a few upsurges in populism and Uber might be forced to do it on someone else's terms and without preparing investors for it. Even with first world labor standards, Uber is a superb business model. I had Uber eats deliv

I know that is Uber's view, I think it's mistaken and unsustainable. The lack of a sustainable policy is what creates the existential risk.

Uber has done nearly everything right. I think its main vulnerability is that its laborers are a fickle bunch and Uber hasn't done enough to inspire any loyalty. All Uber drivers I talk to alternate between Uber and Lyft and exploit a

None of this matters. What matters is the crimes committed by US officials when they illegally classified much of the information in the first place. Of course Manning (or anyone who leaks) is likely to be an imperfect messenger. It's

I think when one works on software long enough, a sort of pressure starts to build up making the person long to work on hardware in any way possible. I've resorted to woodworking, DIY car repairs, and VHDL... all very therapeutic :)

Ahh, I see. I suppose there would be a lot of people choosing the cheaper, high deductible plan and then not paying their bills, which would have made it harder to sell the plan to healthcare firms. If it were fair it would be based on a p

The problem is that middle class Americans are charged outlandish rates for the plans. The plan for my family last year cost over $1200 per month, and this year rose to $1400/month. Previously, with employer-provided plans I paid at mo
