There are times of day that solar and wind farms produce more energy than the grid can use. This excess energy has no marginal value to the grid. You can also have off-grid solar bitcoin farms that don't need interconnectivity.

Is it possible for people to source or certify sustainable Bitcoin? Since there is a transaction chain, can you choose to buy or boycott “dirty coins”?

Agree. My thinking was... Hey it's art, somewhat functional, fun and much cheaper and more practical than many NFT's these days. That said... I did feel a bit price gouged. There's not enough of a market to drive the price do

Someone else mentioned a way to push images directly to the display but I didn't find an API to make this work. Also using HTML allows my to inject other dynamic content, not just PDF's such as a dashboard, weather, widgets, etc.

Not lazy... I googled for quite a bit and couldn't find the link. I wasn't claiming it as original. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agree. It's too expensive. I rationalized it as art and less expensive than most NFT's. As an art piece I do expect it to be good discussion piece and the construction makes me think that it'll last for 10 years without issue

I thought about this. It would be a throwback to Pointcast (Circa 1990) for anyone who remembers that. They did the same thing... news, weather, stocks on a rotating schedule.

Thanks for posting. I didn't see a way to post directly to the display. I'll have to dig into.

The subtext seems to be that the acquisition is a bad thing? Perhaps this is worth discussing. Microsoft has had a number of great acquisitions and in recent years it has been a good steward. With any acquisition there is risk that this ru

A great start for a truly open approach. It's ironic that OpenAI isn't particularly open about its tech.

I've been keeping copies of the HIG for years because the advice has been watered down over the years. The 1992 HIG is the oldest one that I have. The 1995 version is mostly edits and minor revisions. The 2006 version was heavily adap

This is messed up. The only the stock exchange (NASDAQ/NYSE) should be able to halt a stock. We need a "stock neutrality" for trading platforms. Robinhood claim that they are protecting investors assumes that they don't

I went down this rabbit hole at the start of the pandemic and it's more complex. The thing that makes for a good web-cam is a great lens. The sensor and body of the camera is mostly commodity and contributes at max $50-$100. A good le

There are a number of authors who do make a living by blogging. WaitButWhy and DaringFireball come to mind but I'm sure there are others. Ads and affiliate links did drive non-trivial dollars to my site in the past and while I didn

Amazing seeing what a big performance difference there is between Chrome and Safari on a Mac. It's clear that Chrome on a Mac isn't as hardware accelerated as I previously thought.

A distributed ledger approach is a very bad idea because a foreign country can launch a 51% attack on the ledger and has the resources to win and thus modify the ledger.

I didn't get super far, but far enough to see that an alternative to HTML/CSS was very fast and certainly viable. I also haven't been able to figure out if it's a cool software project or a business. My sense is that it

I had a very similar idea and started to prototype a layout engine, tokenizer and parser. I was able to render things about 1000x faster in the basic case (rendering styled text, boxes and images). The problem I can't crack is mass ado
