For sure. I had one of those for work when I got my personal M1 Air and I couldn't believe how much faster it was. A fanless ultraportable faster than an 8-core i9! I was so happy when I finally got an M1 MBP for work because as you sa

Agreed. It might share the title with the M1 Air which was incredible for an ultraportable, but the M1MBP was just incredible period. Three generations later it's still more machine than most people need. M2/3/4 sped things u

yeah, as I was jokingly implying the names themselves aren't what I would have went with, but overall sticking to generation + t-shirt size + 2 bins is about as simple as it gets.

Yep same here, tried it for a while but Adobe's idea of UI just does not work for me. I reluctantly went to Photos, mainly because of ease of use on the phone for family members, but still I miss full tagging and smart album support.

omg thanks for the tip! It seems to support iCloud-synched smart albums which is a key feature I've wanted for years since Aperture.

I was (selfishly) happy with the acquisition because DarkSky didn't support where I live. Now I have hyperlocal rain notifications I didn't get before.

It’s not a given that a new thing is better than an old thing. Just ask Intel. The news here is that the Pro isn’t just better than the previous Pro, it’s better than the previous Max and the previous Ultra. That’s impressive even if it’s e

So Ultra used to be the max but now Max is max… until Ultra goes past the max and Max is no longer the max. Until the next Max that goes beyond Ultra!

To my mind one of the great benefits of LLMS is the possibility of searching without handing over some of the most personal information that exists - your search history. I’m happy OpenAI is advancing LLM-based search but I won’t be using i

It's nice that it's built in but I would have preferred they wrote an API for it and let apps provide the service. There's no particular reason we should have to use Apple's models. I already do all the same things local

It's sad really. They could have had the "courage" to say, you know what, there's not much to LLMs yet. We've been shipping NPUs since 2017 and already use ML across our ecosystem to improve the user experience, but

Agree. Using LLMs from code is already so easy I don't see why a developer would need something like this. In one evening I whipped up a lib for talking to ollama, usings agents, tool use, sandboxed code execution etc. and that was doi

The problem is those other options won't run macOS. If the OS is a given then there's no choice. Day to day I don't mind but when needs change or something breaks it's unfortunate to have to replace the whole machine to

I loved my 2015 MBP, probably the best machine Apple made, overall, until arguably the 2019 16" (read: after the butterfly keyboard debacle) Traded it for an M1 Air in 2021 and was astonished at how much faster it was. It even blew awa

I like the M1 comparisons. They got some free improvements from the x86 -> ARM transition but everything past that is on them, so it's interesting to see how far they've come. But that aside I agree it feels like marketing slim

Yep. I moved from an M1 Air to M2 MBP but only for RAM and creature comforts (size, display, sound etc.) Even on the fanless Air performance was more than enough for the moderate dev work I threw at it. iPhones have been more powerful than

They knew about LLMs in 2022. They've been shipping NPUs since transformers hit the scene in 2017.
