Take a deep breath. Everything is alright and you have a bright future ahead. Getting fired is same as you leaving the job, without having a offer in hand, discarding any emotional turbulence. Keep applying for jobs and very soon you'l

With algorithms, I mean if the problem demands some optimization, be it network flow, string compression or some kind of resource allocation (something like register allocation in compilers), one should have the vague idea which direction t

I would say, try to test the fundamentals. Do they understands how memory is accessed, have sense what kind of algorithm is used (though it would be too much to code in 45 minutes), ambitious, have general idea to solve a problem, can they

Very fair argument. Let's dissect the argument, engineering firms have improved their soft skills and value proposition. Assuming these firms are US based and all american, then by going popular wisdom here, how can american firms poss

This is plain BS. I don't recall any CS department in India (and I know 100's) teaching, MS-word, Logo, Basic, Powerpoint, excel etc. However, I did TA'ed at Rice University, TX, Excel course for freshman.

I'm sorry, what kind of engineers "after years of competing with Indian companies have upped their skills"? Just curious.

I think, you are far from truth. To work on EAD, one needs i-140, which is enroute to green card. So non Indian and chinese, get their green card in 2 years. After green card, every thing becomes immaterial. So ONLY Indians and Chinese get

I sense BS here. Come to SF, you'll see everyone sharing apartments. Having roommate is a personal choice, either you get in debt like typical american or live frugally. If someone doesn't have family in US and knows that he'

Not but also, but only. Here is the thing, spouses of h1b can only work after getting I-140. For most of the indians, when they are legit, it will take 2-4 years after they start working on fresh h1b to get I-140. For non Indians, they will

Message is loud and clear. No Indians are welcome. Now indians on h1b need to figure out, if they will migrate to Canada with skills they have, will they start business in India. Govt have no intentions of improving GC process. Govt want to

Well, I don't know man. If I don't like something, I would try to change it. I'll do something on my own, but not give up career in tech. I have, had some terrible demotivating code reviews, too. It's pointless at times,

I think this was all trash talk, nothing but an attempt to intimidate. If companies are following letters of the law then it doesn't matter who thinks/interprets what. and they better know they would be challenged in court of law.

Not really. Not every one come from fresh H1b. There are tons of H1B transfer cases. If you're interested, pick your favourite startup, go to H1bdata.info, very likely you'll find few cases of h1b hire. Hopefully, may be next time
