I tend to use csvkit for more complicated transformations, and OCaml's csvtool[0] for the simpler ones. For intermediate transformations I wrote my own csved[1] script, which reads for every line of a CSV reads it into @F, applies a Pe

I think a fair amount of leniency with input is a good thing. The problem starts when you start to increase your leniency in response to someone else's out-of-spec output. A nice thing of open source projects is that they are freeer

Fair enough, it's busywork and easy to postpone. But code optimization is something that needs this kind of double-checking, so in the end you should have it for all opcodes, and then including the easy ones like abs isn't much ex

Thanks. So I guess the easy compatible solution is to always quote the first item on the first line when writing CSV. Good to know. (Checking if the item starts with ID is more work. Possibly quote all items on the first line for simplicity

I've said it before, CSV will still be used in 200 years. It's ugly, but it occupies an optimal niche between human readability, parsing simplicity, and universality.

It seems to me that V8 had very bad unit tests if this wasn't caught before release. Making sure all operators act the same way when optimized and not is a no-brainer.

I've never seen the word used in the plural (for computer programming code) until today, having been in computer science for 35 years. The uncountable form definitely dates from way before the web.

I'm seeing it here for the first time, and from multiple people. Maybe it's specific to the Fortran community?

Correct, since it is an English article. In most other languages (that use these words at all) it would be 1 x 10^36 . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_short_scales

> The linked "byte mode" table only has 45 individual chars. No, that link is for alphanumeric mode, which uses 5.5 bits per character (45 * 45 = 2025 <= 2048, so it fits in 11 bits).

I've always thought, in a single-surname system, it would be most fair to give girls their mother's surname and boys their father's (throw a dice for intersex children).
