Maybe I'm naive or overly optimistic, but I suspect that COVID-19 presents a big enough scare to motivate legislators and voters to fix these problems in the near future.

We all have Social Security Numbers too (in the US). Doesn’t mean we should share them with anyone who asks.

If you have a domain name registered, sometimes your registrar will offer built in email. For example, I have a domain registered with Gandi and they provide a free email service.

There is a gym very near my office. I do a short strength training circuit that takes me between 30-45 minutes. My commute is 15-20 minutes (medium size city and I live within 10 miles from work) and I shower at home. Obviously very specifi

I work from 7-5 each day, so even when I go to the gym or run a quick errand after work I can be home by 6, which strikes me as a "decent hour", although I suppose that's subjective. Waking up at 6am takes getting used to but

This type of schedule is called a 9/80 and you work 80 hours every 2 work weeks. Your Fridays "on" you work 8 hours instead of 9. And you get every other Friday off. At my company, we have the option between the standard 5x8,

One possible explanation is that the market rate for a developer in two different cities is different, so said company has no choice but to pay those two developers different salaries if they want to hire them at all. It's simply suppl

I think awk is better than any of the alternatives if the problem you're solving matches a pattern-expression paradigm and, as others have said, you have no external dependencies. Granted, this is quite a constraint and perhaps there a

That's pretty good. May I ask what part of Asia? I rent a ~1600 sq. ft. house in the southwestern US for about $1400/month including utilities. It blows my mind what people pay for a quarter of that on the coasts.

Is Bing any better (as far as user privacy and tracking) than Google? Genuine question. Bing is still owned by MS right?

I didn’t think DDG claims to be ad-free, merely tracking free. They still have to keep the lights on, after all.

If you own a domain through Gandi (possibly others) you get email included for free. This is what I use. I don’t know why I don’t see this recommended more often?

The companies that do exhibit social and environmental responsibility rarely make it into the news, since they don’t support the daily need for outrage or the narrative that Corporations Are Evil. It’s mere selection bias.

I find the mental model of "circle of concern vs. circle of control" immensely helpful. The only appropriate things to worry about are things within your circle of control. Otherwise, let it go.
